Hey Doc! I went into the purchase pretty much wanting a Benelli for trap shooting, but did look at other autos. I bought my first Benelli; a Benelli M4 earlier in the spring which had me love Benellis! I went into my endeavor for a trap gun wanting a 2nd Bennie but disciplined myself(however biased) that I'd buy the one that called to me, fit me, which one upon raising it to my sight plane begged to be shot right then! For *ME*, the Monte felt good and was going to be the one I would purchase. I then found a guy on Gunbroker that traded my Wilson-Combat AR15 for the Supersport(that took all of about ten seconds to agree on!) Oddly enough, I wanted a wood stock, but ended up with the techie-looking Supersport. I like it though. DEFINITELY try the adjustable shims and such. I'm a leftie, and just the bit of shimmage/adjustment/tweaking was well worth it. It went from a decent fitting gun to . . . POP, right in the pocket and up on target! Other autos I liked were the Winchester SX3 and Beretta A391 (Urika or something like that I think.) My second choice would've likely been the Winchester. I had a Rem 11-87 before too, but it seemed like I always had to adjust to make it fit for good sight picture. I guess a new Beretta A400 is coming out, but I have not seen one or really looked into them at all. All good guns, but..... I got the SS. I have not had one single malfunction in my SS! In fact, I just got back from shooting trap with my wife and dad. Oddly enough though, I am now looking at Browning O/U, just because they're pretty!! NOT getting rid of the SS, just want an O/U becuase I think they look neat. I like the Browning 625 Clays 32" lefty gun. MAN, that just seems to fit like an extension of my arm. (SIGH!) $3k though! Anyway, off topic, sorry. Benelli is easy to clean/maintain. Not like others are difficult, but Benelli being Inertia are just that much easier. Got with fit though in guns that fit your pocketbook. Happy weekend to ya! 2-wheel

I was just making these comparos myself a couple months ago. Monte is pretty much an M2, but as Hattles stated, the stock. The Monte also has a blued finish on receiver and barrel vs the M2 will have a matte finish. Nearly the same weight, both Inertia. Which one calls to your soul, and get that one. Me, it was for trap and clays shooting, so I got a Supersport. I would've been happy w/ either of the two you ask about. Best of luck!

Good things come to those who wait. I got the same e-mail as well about a week ago. I'll just consider it a very totally kewl awesome day when it gets here and from what everyone says, worth the wait. . . . 'til then, 6+1(floating a round) will have to do.

What Slugs/Buckshot is Everyone Using in Their M4?
twowheelhooligan replied to 12508's topic in Benelli
Hey folks, I'm in a buckshot tryouts with my M4 and taking pictures of my patterns. I hope to be done and compile them all in one long post for everyone's benefit, interest or just ranting at my unscientific methods. I'm finding all the 2.75" buckshot loads I can, putting a full-size silhouette target out to 30ft, and shooting once to CM, once to head. I'm measuring both groups C-C and putting and including the box of ammo I used so people can tell which type it is. Give me a few days yet. All I can find so far is about ten different types locally. Oddly enough though, Federal 2.75" seems to be the best buckshot patterning I've found. Slugs. . that's another tryout I have to do yet as well. I'll do that maybe later in the month. -
For the factory mag to be troublesome is well.... troublesome! The easy solution, try different mags. Magpul P-mags, Brownells magazines are the first two places I'd go. After that, the only thing I could think of is measure the OAL of the cartridge styles that are troubling you, compare it to the OAL of cartridges that don't. It is very VERY weird to me that the Fed cartridges were find in the factory mag at first and then causing malfunctions! I've had REALLY good luck with Sellier & Bellot 55gr FMJ ammo through my MP15 1:9 twist, also PMC Bronze line 55gr FMJ. Keep us posted.

I was out shooting my very first trap league tonight with my Benelli Supersport. Shot two rounds, 17 & 17. I've probably shot all of about 300-400 rounds at clay targets before. Soooo, Tom Knapp won't be quivering in fear because of me. . . . . yet! (sigh!) I hope people are able to get outside and put some supersonic (or even subsonic) lead downrange!

I can say this, if you're gonna keep the factory PG stock on AND get any sort of breaching choke, get a 44" case!! I have a 42" that I have to squeeeeeeze my M4 into. Now, if you're going to mount the CS stock, I believe that shortens the LOP by 4"-6" (correct me here fellas), so then a 42" should work. Seems like most cases that work well for it are more geared towards AR platform weapons. www.lapolicegear.com has good prices on three clearence portions of their website at times. 5.11 clearence, "ceo's corner" and just general clearence. I have not found one that seems to tailor more to the needs of a shotgunner vs. rifleman yet though.

I fired some Win Target(white box, red X I think) that was listed as 1100 or 1150fps, #8 and my Supersport cycled just fine, not a hiccup to be sensed. I have also fired Win AA, Fed Field & Target, Estate, Win Super X and Rem Gun Club loads. Not a single malfunction at all, have about ~350 rds in it in the last 10 days. I have a couple cases of Fed Gold Medal on order, should be in soon. Shoot 'em up! Congrats on your Sport II! Now I just gotta go pattern the thing.

I like all your ideas. I failed to mention I am partial(NOT committed) to the Surefire rail since I have a dealer friend that can cut me some smokin' deals on occassion if I don't abuse it. Hookster. . . 1) You take nice photos. Even light/flash distribution, looks good! 2) I like the light mounting location close to the barrel. It would illuminate the front sight nicely AND puts the light more in line-of-sight with gunsite eye. I will certainly have to explore that option. Being a lefty, I'm going to put both light/remote pad on as Hookster has. That way in case I decide to put a clicky switch tailcap (yes, that's a technical-tactical term! ) The light would stay in the same location. ya'll are so helpful and friendly! makes me feel all warm-n-stuph. God bless and watch over our Troops, especially the ones that aren't home!

Cody, I understand your point of view, but. . . would you take a new sportbike and just "run it like ya brung it" to a race or a trackday? I doubt it. Would you run a marathon in a pair of never before worn running shoes? Not likely. Mechanically speaking. . . probably not needed. In the academy, I had 40hrs of firearms training and we ran about 2k rounds through our Glocks. I think it serves two purpose. One - the obvious, F.A. training and motorskill development. TWO - "break-in" the firearms AND. . allow the operators to develop confidence with their handgun. Soooo, that being said, I think most people(myself included) want to feel confident that their $1500 gun will run, and run flawlessly. I think that's a reasonable expectation for someone spending $1500 on a shotgun. Secondly, people just want to know what runs in their gun and doesn't. People want to know what cheap ammo they can use for a 3-gun competition to knock down plates and poppers, or what will work for reload/handling drills. One of my other favorite shooting games is .22LR ammo tryouts in my CZ452 military trainer. I've found ammo that stays at or under an inch @ 50 yds. Other ammo that won't dial in under three inches. Same with shotty and buckshot tryouts that I hope most to all of people in this forum do. Buckshot "a" patterns at 6" spread at 30ft vs buckshot "b" patterns at 3", etc. It's a mechanical device that is assembly line manufactured. IF we knew every M4 was hand assembled with the care of one person, break-in might not be such a big deal, all those burrs, rough edges, etc would be taken care of(NOT like there's many of those anyway, I know.) I break in ANY gun I buy. Pistols, rifles, shotguns. But. . . that's just me. I enjoy every aspect of my firearms from purchase to cleaning. Anyway, just my $.02. . .. again, on an old post hehehe

I've looked at the past posts, but I'm not finding the information combo for my inquiry. My situation: I already have a Surefire Scout light w/ remote switch. I do not have a means of securing it to my M4 yet. On a long gun, I am a STRONG believer in a weapon mounted light. I like the tri-rails and clamps for mag tubes, but don't those have to be removed when taking off the barrel for cleaning? AND, I’d like to have the switch closer to me so my arms out way out, but closer to center-mass. I was thinking about the Surefire rail. My thought was that I would mount the light and remote switch on same side, so when rail removed for cleaning, it stays on the rail. I also contemplated the FAB fore end /rail for the same reason, keep the light/switch together for routine cleaning. My question: What rail or rail system will allow the use of my light, on a rail, but allow the weapon to be torn down for cleaning without having to remove the illumination devices from their mounting locations? Thank you in advance for your help and guidance.

Fist let me say I'm sorry people are having trouble with their Benellis. YOWZER, that's not fun! Best of luck to get 'em fixed! So, is this only occuring with the youth models, or any Nova? Is it any caliber or just the 20's? From what I'm reading above, it appears only the youth model, which seems odd. Gosh, anyone here that's been around kids should know that the "youth" model should be beefier! Maybe feed it some Beefcake 2000 like Cartman!

God I hate it when I don't see the date of the original post! Grrrr!

When breaking mine in a few months ago, I bought a total variety pack of 2-3/4" and 3" shells, most of them being turkey loads, some buckshot, maybe ten slugs and I did put some target loads in there as well. First day out I put 115 rounds downrange. The *ONLY* ones that would fail to eject/cycle were ESTATE, but I expected that as they are lower power round. Everything else 100% function. I took it home, cleaned it, and went back out soon, fired another 100 rounds of varying shells down the launch tube. this time the Estates did cycle through. Everything I've fired through it has cycled since EXCEPT less-lethal rounds I got from work. But I totally expected that, as those hardly have any powder to them. Heck, the bag drops about 2-3ft @ 25 yard!! I've managed to put about 1k rounds through my M4 in a few months, and have had ZERO malfunctions other than the initial break-in I mentioned above. The only malfunctions I get are the ones I make happen (dummy rounds) for weapon handling drills. But as far as live fire goes, this has been better than a 1911 .45 (wincing and waiting for the lashes from .45 die-hards) Best of luck, congrats on your purchase!! load it, shoot it, feed it more. Happy 4th of July, you'll have your own 12ga fireworks to celebrate!

get a set of scatter tech sights, or factory Benelli sights, remove the ones on there and install rear sight on receiver, new front on barrel. ORrrrrrrr, just become Tom Knapp and know how to shoot by pointing it in the "vicinity" I would *NOT* recommend saying that in court though!

Well, I got my loooong anticipated Supersport on Friday. Initial impressions – I love the weight (or lack there of), glad I got the 30” vs. 28. My intent is to use it for trap/skeet and such. I think I have a sporting clays range nearby, but I know I have trap/skeet close. I know the fake carbon-fiber is cheesy since its fake, but I do like the look of it. I really like the 2-tone look on the receiver and the bluing on it is sooooo purrrty. So I took it home, cleaned it/inspected it, went to the trap range with my lil’ spring loaded thrower solo. Shot 85 rounds, 100% flawless with WIN AA heavy target, WIN Super X and Fed Field & Target loads. Initial SHOOTING impressions – I’m glad I didn’t get the Ultralight now! NOT that the SS is heavy recoil by any means, but a pound lighter or so, that would certainly add ft-lbs to the shoulder. I put 250 rounds through it in three days, and I don’t feel anything on my shoulder, NOTHING! Certainly hits less than my old 11-87! I think the SS swings nicely too. I’m still adapting to the new sight picture. (Vs. my M4) I certainly have to get out and pattern the thing with varying ammo/chokes, etc. Any recommendations on what distance for patterning? I seem to recall 30yds or so??? I thought my M4 was easy to clean, pweph! This thing is a breeeeeeze!! WOWZER! Took it back out Sat w/ my wife and Sunday at an actually trap range with a trap house. Umm, that certainly changed things a bit. I haven’t shot from a trap house is a while. (refer to sight picture above paragraph.) I’ve shot USPSA for years, and shooting rifles. This is definitely a new game where I have lots to learn, but I’m going to have fun doing it. I don’t know if it’s the best gun for the game, but I know the gun is better than me. I know people have fancy O/U’s and single barrels but a) I can’t afford those b) those guns are waaaaaaaaay better than me and c) I really can’t afford those! J But, it just seems to fit me well. I’d like to have someone that knows shotgun fitment to give it a look-see with me. Maybe I’ll find someone soon. Anyway, I guess more than anything I’m just sharing the joy of my new shotty. I haven’t shot a shotgun in years. I get my M4, and I become a Benelli addict!! Now the SS. Now I’m thinking about an M2 as well and a Nova 20ga for my wife. (sigh!) fun FUN stuff. Lastly, thanks to many of you for responding to my inquiries about which to get a month or so back. Helped me out to narrow the search. Be well!

"Now, all you guys with science degrees and slide rulers, prove me wrong." And all that equals . . . . . Shoot, have fun, shoot more, have more run: REPEAT + don't miss. Did I prove you wrong Sarge? hehe

But. . . if Benelli catches a wiff of people making money off of their access, then all too soon those letters will require CHIEF signatures. Some agencies, the Chiefs don't even like guns, much less let one of their own have a "scary" gun like a Benneli M4 w/ CS stock. It is sad that the black market has allowed itself to get to the point of $600+ CS stocks. It is sad that Benelli can't offer them to Joe Public for lets say. . . $250, $200 to LE and $150 or so for military. BUT. . . it's not that way. Why less for military? Because GOD or what ever power that be please watch over our brothers/sisters/sons/daughters/moms and dads for being in the hellhole of the "sandbox" doing what they do!! Thank you Vets!!! Sorry, got off topic a bit. beat me with the wet noodle on Tuesday after 5pm please.

Hunter, The first place I would go if I were you is the 2010 Benelli promo DVD. In that DVD they have the test you speak of; measuring at the buttstock the ft-lbs of energy with varying brands and types of stocks, in addition to a regular Benelli vs. Comfortech. I know it's not unbiased, but it's information that has its merit. Besides, you get entertained with trick shots from T. Knapp and T. Bradley. Which one is best? Well, for us mere mortals (i.e. NOT being Knapp or Bradley above) is there really a difference? Well, maybe. Gas or Inertia? Well, I LOVE my M4, but. .. that isn't a duck hunting gun either. I get my Supersport today, but I can't speak to my personal experience of inertia or comfortec. . . YET. I shoot trap better with my 18" M4 than I EVER did with my 26" 11-87. I have NO idea why either. Is the 11-87 a bad gun? No. Bad for me? Apparently. Both of those are gas guns. Why do I say this? A Benelli seems to be something special. In this forum, there is a LOT of passion for them. Are there people that don't like them? YOU BET! Why? Some say they have frozen on them duck hunting. Some just can't seem to pay that much $$ (yet they'll spend $5k on an O/U for trap?) Some just don't like fit. I think in the end, get what fits you, you like looking at, and see if you can experience the guns you're contemplating. I held, swung, mounted about every 28-30" semi-auto shotty I could find. For me, the closest 2nd was a Beretta, but Benelli inertia guns are just lighter, slimmer, elegant. Gas is certainly more maintenance. But... I look at gun cleaning as a perfect opportunity to get away from the nagging wife, relax and get away. She doesn't like Hoppe's 9 smell. To me, it smells a couple hours of freedom. I guess she doesn't have to know an inertia gun is easier. Go check out the DVD, it has good information. Best of luck!

HUH. .. and for LE/Military it's $150.00 which includes shipping. I JUST got my e-mail from Benelli-USA this week! Granted, they're 60 days behind, but, if one isn't in a hurry and has the option, I'll wait! YOWZER!! $700!! Hey, that's America, make the money while you can. I just didn't have it in me to lie and get more than what I needed. I know I could make a killing, but oh well. I'll just try and ***** myself to my wife for food, beer, ammo and more ammo. -
GET BOTH? Yeah, I know, really helpful. I have the M4, and LOVE IT! What was said above is great info, so I won't bother repeating. What is the use/intent of the gun? If it's for HD, then either. I just used my M4 for a 3-gun competition, and it rocked, but. . . shooting tactical iron, I might consider getting an M2 since I'm shooting a basic bare-bones shotty with no widgets and gadgets on it. (ammo capacity w/ extended tube, lighter, etc.) Benellis are addicting, very VERY addicting. My Benelli bug started in March of this year, I already have two, and am gonna see if an M2 isn't in the future myself! But.. . . I may have to oblige the wife first and get her the Nova 20ga she is wanting. (twisting arm. . . . ok hon!) Best of luck!

beautiful! Now all it needs is a Hello Kitty Sticker.
