Is the piston stuck or does the gas plug not want to come off? The plugs are bear to unscrew, usually involving some leverage.

Well its gonna take sub-zero temperatures to get that stuff thick enough to do anything! Otherwise its like water, evaporates by the time it gets into the field! To the original poster- it is common practice to clean & oil a new firearm before use. There are numerous reasons for this, ranging from dirty factory test firing, poor quality lubes, extended time in warehousing, etc. Clean & lube the gun as you see fit - as you have read we all do it differently! The only real problem shells are Winchester-Walmart. The problem is not that they shoot dirty, they're just junk that has a tendency to get stuck in the chamber.

Your M2 will knock clays out of the sky as good as anything. My prefered gun for clays is an M4 with a Cylinder choke!

Yes, Benelli Warranty is great. I'm glad they took care of you. I have never had a problem with the M4s, and never heard of any, either. Maybe the hardware loosened up and then got battered to bits?

I wouldn't worry about warranty, and the tubes/wrench/etc should be cheap. I have no idea what an extra barrel is worth, but it looks like you could get a new shotgun at that price point.

I think you are doing it wrong. The only time the bolt locks rear is if the gun is slap-empty and the hammer is down (trigger pulled). Sometimes the bolt will hang (not lock) to the rear if there is a round on the carrier. There are reasons for this, but that is a whole other subject. Hopefully some of the other members can chime in; what you have described doesn't make sense.

In my experience shotgun recoil comes down to Three Things: total weight, shell type, and recoil pad. The heavier the gun the less recoil. Short birdshot is very different from say, magnum buck. And a soft recoil pad is much more comfortable than a hard one, or none at all! I have never noticed a difference in recoil due to the action of the gun. Pumps, break open, recoil and gas operated all seemed the same to me. As the post above shows not everyone will feel this way. If you have a rock-hard pad like what comes on the M4s I think you'll see a big difference with a quality pad. If this doesn't work you may switch over to a 20 Gauge.

Yeah, me too. I don't how they do it Seriously, folks, my M4s will eat and eject stuff my rattle-trap Mossbergs will not. A break-in period is common to all machinery and an Italian shotgun is no different. These things were meant to run on full-power loads so asking a new shotgun to run on junk birdshot is a bit much sometimes. If the gun has honestly been cleaned, oiled, and broken in properly it should work. If it does not I'm sure Benelli will get you fixed up.

No. The only other things out there are the Surefire Forend and the KZ Rail, which are both far from factory.

EDIT: Beat me by two minutes! Switch the safety around so that it is correct for you. I'm not a fan of oversized-tactical-extended safety buttons but they available if you'd like. And look on the bright side: the bolt handle is located very conveniently!

You're still a little long. Regular Winchester BuckShot is 2 5/16. So 2 7/16 - 2 5/16 * 7 -3/8 = 1/2 inch of room to spare with the Winchster

Theres your problem. Spring and follower are unlikely culprits, unless you're running one of those funny Choate followers. An M4 Full Length 7-round tube will barely hold seven (7) rounds. In other words if something is slightly off they won't fit. The common 2 3/4 length is nominal. They vary quite a bit. If a shell is 1/8 long it means that 6 shells stacked up are 3/4 inch too long. Generally speaking Buckshot is 'long' and Birdshot is 'short'. The real problem are the plugged shells. The length refers to the fired length. Stay with me on this. A standard crimped 2 3/4 shell measures out to about 2.5 inches. The plugged shells (like Sellier & Bellot) are not crimped. They measure 2 3/4 unfired, in other words the length of a standard 3 inch shell.
