Your best bet would be to give a gift certificate from a well-stocked gun dealer and let him choose what he wants. A gun is a very personal choice item, and although your intentions are admirable, you could easily pick out something that he thinks totally sucks. If you've never heard him mention a particular model or brand of tactical shotgun, then I'd recommend the gift certificate.

Why do you need to order a stock production gun from a gunsmith? Buy it from a Bass Pro, Cabelas, Gander Mountain, or on the net and save money. Once you've received it, take it by your gunsmith's shop and let him measure the bore to satisfy his curiosity.
