Obviously, this is not a common or expected occurence. If the gun is new, call Benelli CS immediately and be prepared to ship the gun back to them. If it's used, I would be very suspicious that someone overworked the trigger and sear to the point that they don't stay engaged when the bolt slams shut.

Some components of the carrier latch may show wear more quickly, since they're being used on every shot.

On the M2, the groove will have to be filled before it will float one. Go back and do the search for information on how to accomplish this. Some use epoxy like JB Weld, but I had mine tigged.

It's at least two years old. They show it a lot on the Outdoor Channel. Still cool, though

Sounds to me like he's heard of the "floater". Do a search for "floating a round" on these forums.

We get Sept. 1-25, but there's no Sunday hunting and Vriginia, being a conservative stick in the mud, adopted none of the council's recommendations on raised limits or extended hours. 5 per day, until sunset.

Leupold and Zeiss are pretty much equal in quality and performance, with Nikon running somewhat behind. I've had them side-by-side and couldn't discern an advantage one way or the other. I've always chosen Leupold for their wider availability of shades, covers and accessories, but either will be fine. The 44mm objective seems to be nice middle ground between having a scope that gathers low light and one that doesn't look too obtrusive atop the sleek and slender R1. 3.5-10 is the perfect deer range for most hunters. Tip: Try the trigger on the R1 before making a final commitment to get one. Some buyers find the relatively heavy pull a bit much to deal with. Also, don't expect bolt action accuracy from the R1. The Kimber 8400 has the potential to shoot sub MOA built into the design. The R1 would require a fair amount of luck and some serious twealking to shoot that well. It's been years since I shot slugs, but I'd try the Federal Truball slugs and see how they grouped.

The primary advantage of the cantilever would be having the scope permanently attached to the barrel, so changing back and forth to standard barrels would not require re-zeroing. While rifled barrels offer a greater potential for accuracy, I can tell you that a smoothbore can deliver excellent results out to 125 - 150 yards with the right slugs. If I were in your shoes, I'd see what kind of results I could get with the barrel I already had before spending the extra cash. All you have to lose is a little time and few $$$ in slugs.

Decoys are ready. Boat is ready. Licenses are bought. Blinds have been inspected, with wasps removed. Geese are using the hunting area. It's looking good, but I hope it cools off here!

From your fist post: "I just picked up my rifle, ... Even though it was 13 degrees with a 25 mph wind, I had to go out and fire a few rounds. " Wow! Those summers can be brutal in Vermont

What's a Swedish girl like her doing on a Benelli server?

No need for bumping here. Plenty of folks saw your question, and from the responses, Id say the answer is no. I'd suggest you have the gun checked thoroughly by a gunsmith or Benelli CS as this is a potentially very dangerous situation. [ 08-19-2006, 04:50 AM: Message edited by: tucker301 ]

Used Kents almost exclusively last year and they performed flawlessly for me in the SBEII. My hunting buddy had a few jams and FTF's, but he uses a Stoeger, and certain it wasn't the shells.

Updated Link Man! I wish I hadn't got booted off of there too! I really liked the place

It's a good deal if you're not adding shipping charges or anything else. Not a great deal, but a good one.

Any good Leupold, Burris, Trijicon, or even Bushnell Elite will do. I'd suggest something in the 1.5-4.5 variable range. Use Leupold QR rings and Leupold bases for easy on/off with good zero retention. You may also want to look at some of the newer red dots / green dots. In fact, Truglo now has one on which you can adjust the dot color, intensity, and size. It's a nice looking unit, and I would think it would be just about perfect for your situation.

Trust me, if you shoot a bird with the stock barrel, it will die.
