  1. Hi FIB, Just prior to retiring, the government computer I was useing was under the control of the Air Force. Any sight with cetain key words were automatically blocked as were many groups of URL that were deemed not acceptable for work. Naturally there was 24 hour monitoring and tracking. Because of my job requiring purchasing items that were unconventional, some restrictions were lifted for me. Of course some days a comm specialist would phone me and ask why I was on a certain sight. I guess I can say "I feel your pain". Thank goodness for home computers.
  2. Hi Tucker, I apologize for the brief moment of levity. After a life time of LEO work, us older folks tend to develop a big sense of humor. I've heard it can be caused by breathing Break Free CLP, over many years. It will happen again.
  3. Hi there Adamlau ! Strangest thing... I was involded in almost the exact situation just last week. I was hanging upside down by a rope underneath a twin turbo prop airplane that was starting to take off. I was carrying my trusty Marlin bolt action "Goose gun" with holo sight and 3 inch 00 buck loads. Three guys with M16's were chasing me and bullets were flying every where. My holo sight got smashed up against the plane. I quickly placed the 36" barrel with full choke between my feet to help aim and with my free hand shot and worked the clumsy, long bolt. Reloading was tough with the magazine only holding three rounds and I did drop a few shells, but after a brief firefight with me actually taking out two bad guys at 90 + yards (love that goose gun with 36" tube) the plane lifted off and I was safe. Then a seagull flew into me and I was killed....DARN Next time I'll take my own advice and get a M4
  4. For home defense only, perhaps the answer is the 00 buck round that you can handle the easiest. For many people the 3" or 3+1/2 inch loads, even under stress situations, are not going to be manageable. Practise at the range and find out what is comfortable for you. I've spent a life time practising at 25 yards on the LE shotgun course, but the course is designed for outdoor confrontations. At 25 yards, all brands of 00 buck have kept the pellets on target and covered the human paper targets with a nice spread. I certainly would never want to take a load of 00 buck at 25 yards! We also shoot at 7 yards in a "quick shoot" type scenario and all loads end up in about 3 inches or less on target. Just can't see an intruder getting up after a blow to any part of the body with 00 buck at 7 yards or under. For me, it still comes down to what 00 buck rounds I can fire repeatedly before I can't keep the muzzle on target. That also means, lose the pump gun and get a reliable semi-auto such as a Benelli M4. At the end of an afternoon of shooting 00 buck on the LE range, the pump guys are having problems getting off a second round and I'm still firing 3-4 rounds before the whistle blows. We also shoot slugs at 25 yards and with my Benelli, it's like shooting a rifle. Most all modern 00 buck ammunition is reliable, so find out what brand is the easiest for you to handle, practise as often as you can and use a semi-auto. Of course some people will say "I live in a mansion and 80 yards shots down the hallway or between bedrooms will be common". After a life time of shooting at my local friendly ranges, I've learned that somebody will always want the absolute peak performance at extreme range under the most bizzare situations. It makes all shooting fun. In my shotshell collection, I have an 3+1/2 inch 10 guage, 00 buck round. I'm told THAT is the ultimate home defense round
  5. The regular stock with full pistol grip is the way to go. The telescoping stock gets hung up on branches, your clothes, the sling, any low hanging wires/ pieces of metal and nearby kids. Of course, once you've adding a holo sight, 8 round side saddle, night vision scope, pressure sensitive flashlight, ghost ring sights, breaching door muzzle attachment, laser sight, 12 round extended magazine tube, over size bolt closing button, over size bolt, quick load extended magazine loader and a 6 point harness sling - - having the telescoping stock catch on your clothes may not seem like a bad thing. H+K M1 S90 in Defense Configuration. 22 years in service just the way the factory shipped it. Keep it simple, keep it working.

  7. Looks like a survival kit. Reliable .22 for small game and the M4 for big game and two legged pest. That combo could handle any situation. Should be lots of fun at the range also. Plinking with .22's is my favorite activity that I never get tired of. I'm reading on these forums that some folks due pretty good with the M4 shooting skeet and simular sports.

When I started out shotgunning, I owned a J.C. Higgins bolt-action 16 guage repeater. It's what I could afford and the only shotgun a friend would sell to a teenage girl ($15). That by-the-way was over 40+ years ago. Now I own two Benelli's and they ARE the best working shotguns I have ever owned. So; buy the Stevens, have fun with it and later in life try the benelli.
  9. In the picture, it looks like both screws are hollow. If this is the case, then the walls against the threads are very thin and thusly fragile. If at all possible, see if you can obtain solid screws (perhaps from a gunsmith or hardware store) and try again. I've seen this kind of damage a few times, especially with the screws supplied when mounting a cheap .22 scope.
  10. Perhaps a better way of preventing the dreaded "Benelli Click" is to practise making you shotgun do, the Benelli click. Making sure your shotgun is empty, sit next to a tree and bump the ground with the butt of the shotgun and see if it the fires. Give the butt a slap with your hand and see if it fires. Gently ease the bolt forward and try again. After awhile you will have the "click" down to a science and then will know what not to do. It's a simple exercise in reverse learning but very effective. Also works on certain semi-automatic pistols. When you learn what will make your firearm not work, your ready for that all important shot or even better, how to clear a jam and keep shooting.
  11. Hi M4CQB, I'm not familiar with all the newer slang. Could you tell me what CQB stands for?
  12. I have an older M1 S90 H+K Defense model (22 years old) and it has always fired everything I've put into it from 2+1/2" light English loads to the heaviest 3" slugs and buckshot. I've demonstrated this to friends countless times with different loads all mixed in the tube (7+1+1). Just last week I ran through some much older 000 buckshot mixed with new Winchester X-Lite AA target loads. Wow, that lasted about 16 rounds. I'm not as young as I used to be and those 000 buckshot rounds were murder on my shoulder Talk about night and day. The light AA go boom and those 000 rounds go BLAM Even shot off-handed by my side. My M1, of course, fired off every thing without a hiccup. These older M1 S90's rule !!
  13. A few years ago, the quick slide release of the Nova pump guns was a major selling point, advertised as the fastest second shot available from a pump gun. Borrow a Mossy or Remington pump and compare them with how fast you can get a second shot ready. Then try your Nova. You will see a great difference. Of course some folks will argue that it's the person not the gun that makes a fast second shot, but I'm talking about shotgun neophytes not life long pump users. For you wise guys out their, professional exhibition shooters don't count
  14. Girly loads?? I like it From now on whenever I talk about buying cheap promo loads from Wally-World I'm calling them Girly loads. This October my little Monty will be fed only 20 gauge girly loads. I wonder if the Quail, Grouse and Pheasents will notice?
  15. I meant my H+K M1 S90 Defense model Benelli. Pistol Grip, rifled sights and 7+1.
  16. Kit = Feminine name for Catherine. ( sorry, I couldn't resist that Another definition for kit is "equipment for some particular activity". So, slink over to my crib and I'll show you my kit
  17. For me, it's two reasons for not using a pistol grip as I prefer a straight English style stock. For long periods of working fields and woods for Quail and Grouse, the pistol grip would be very uncomfortable for just carrying my shotgun. Secondly, for those sudden and wild flushes of birds, the pistol grip would be cumbersome. With the straight English stock, when the bird flushes, my hand slides up to the trigger as I'm mounting the shotgun and then I'm ready to shoot.
  18. My guards would be raiders. The centurians might want an "oil" break just when I needed them most. And don't forget, in Taxxachusetts, to install your required child safety trigger lock. I've read in many articles that thiefs always check your bed for firearms or valuables first. A few guys that I know hide their rifles and shotguns in a secret place that nobody can find and still have instant access to them (corner wall in bedroom closet)
  19. I could see where this might be a big seller with the survivalist types. I'll stick to my full size .45 automatic and my 2 posted Imperial Cylon guards.
  20. Okay- a couple of question and then I'll go back and sit in the corner. Years ago while swinging on a Grouse in heavy wooded cover, just as I fired, a large Spruce Pine jumped in front of me and at about 10 feet took the entire load of 7+1/2 shot. Some of that shot bounced straight back and hit me in the hands/arms and kneck. Needless to say, that hurt a lot. Not all doors are created equal and many inner doors are thin hollow plywood. Outer doors tend to be heavy wood or metal construction. The Vang device is pushed against a door jam, leaving the unprotected muzzle about 2 inches from the door jam. So, what keeps the 00 buckshot from blowing back into the shooter? Does the shotgun muzzle get damaged? I'm just a little concerned that some one will purchase the Vang device and practise on the tool shed or barn door and wind up in the hospital and needing a new M4. (Although any reason for getting a new M4 must be considered justified)
  21. Okay guys, I need some help here understanding this M4 Vang Comp breaching device. A breaching device DOES NOT attach to the magazine . It attaches to the shotgun muzzle. A breaching shotgun uses a compressed slug designed to dissinergrate upon impact. The standard military 12 guage M1030 round uses 1.4 oz of powered steel held together with wax formed into a slug. The Hatton round ( 3" ) uses about 1.7 oz of powered zinc compressed into a slug. You aim these slugs at a door hinge or the space between doorknob/lock and the door jam. You get very close with the breaching muzzle (0-6 inches) and blast away. The entire force of the compressed powered slug is expanded on the door instantly. The slots cut into the sides of the breaching device and the pointed flanges on the end of the breaching device help divert the gasses from the fired shotshell and the resulting powered slug material. Not to mention splintered wood or metal from the door. This keeps the shooter from destroying the muzzle of the shotgun and wounding himself/herself. The M4 Vang Comp breaching device has no slots for the gas or powdered slug to go and isn't even mounted on the muzzle! Look at the Mossberg breaching device. On the muzzle where it belongs. So, is the Vang Comp device just for show and the "cool" factor? And where is my US M1017 bayonet adapter I've been waiting for somebody to produce for the Benelli's?
  22. That video is misleading. What is the first rule of gun fighting? Bring a gun! That young lady brought OC spray to a gun fight. As a life long (now retired) federal law enforcement police sergeant, I have seen OC type sprays employed many times. They are a non-lethal part of a defense strategy, just like personnel defense tactics, batons or bean bags. The bottom line is that you have to assess your situation and employ whatever is most appropriate or is available to the situation. Many people that carry OC sprays, do not own or carry firearms either on their person or in their bedrooms. OC spray will give you the chance to get away from a possible serious or life threatening situation. Getting back to the video. If all she possessed was OC spray verses nothing, then spray her assailant and flee the area. Her OC spray would have been her only chance. However, this was a staged event and she knew in advance the shooter had a weapon. She should of taken out her handgun and blown the perp away as. OC spray verses a handgun? Like I said earlier, violates rule# 1 of gun fighting and a poor attempt (the video) at trying to convince firearm neophytes that OC sprays doesn't work. Keeping an M4 near your bed - you bet!!! Bringing OC to a gun fight - I don't think so. SgtCathy Cape Cod
  23. Hi There KG22122, Perhaps if you posted your question in the general forum, more people might get a chance to see it and give you an opinion. The general forum is at the top and says "BENELLI". Lots of luck. The forum your in now is titled "Upland Game" which is typically for those silly bird hunters that chase feathers from Pheasents and Quail. 24. Hi, I have an 1986 M1 S90 in Defense Configuration. According to the manual I received the M1 S90 requires 2 washers. The round flat washer (part 9171) and the curved washer (part 9172-spring washer). On page 10, it explains that you place the flat washer into the "associated seat on the fore end" followed by the curved (spring) washer next. Then you slide the forearm onto the barrel over the barrel guide ring. If you don't have eithor of these springs, may be why the fore arm slides. You can contact Benelli customer service for help in obtaining the parts if they are missing or ask in this forum. Their may be several sources that might sell these parts and you would most likely receive them quicker. Lots of luck Sgt Cathy Cape Cod
  25. Well, somebody is bound to ask what condition is it in? I paid $ 557 for mine, but that was in 1986. Also paid $ 246 more for the 27+1/2 inch ventilated field barrel with 3 chokes, choke wrench, 3 shot limiter device and regular stock. Here in Mass, a defense model H+K S90 M1 would be considered a "large capacity assualt weapon" and is banned unless you prove ownership prior to the ban. Otherwise you could ask a very high price and get it. Since a current model M4 goes for around $ 1500, if your H+K is in very good shape, you might get $ 1000 or more especially to a collector or somebody that wants the grandfather to the M4. Mine works flawlessly (is in 95% condition) and I have no intentions of selling it. Might be buried with it, since I'm not to sure which direction I will be headed SgtCathy Cape Cod
