  1. Full Bore

    West Nile

I just wanted to post a reminder to use your Off or whatever bug spray (careful of your camo finishes) to protect yourself as best as possible while hunting or not this year. I know most of you already do. Here in NW Ohio there are at least two confirmed cases of the nasty disease and one of those cases is a very good old friend of mine and an avid outdoorsman. I just received word that barring a miracle he probably won't make it. I am sad! He wasn't hunting and I don't know if he even knew he got bit. Just out and about. Its hard to believe one bite from the little SOB's can end ones life after all one goes through in life but it can and does happen. He is as a good man and with the flooding in OH this year and other states as well the little SOB's are pretty thick. Protect Yourself!
  2. For anyone interested, in the new Sept. Guns and Ammo they have a field test story on the Ultra Light. Interesting reading. Also in the Proof House they review the Franchi Highlander 20ga. SxS. Just thought I'd pass it on.
  3. I'm not sure about Uncle Mikes. Never tried them. I think they are a little tight and will tend to mark your forend cap. I use these along with many others on this forum and they work well and are also silent. I found these on this forum. http://www.quakeinc.com/slinga5.html
  4. You don't say what distance or type of clay shooting your doing but generally speaking the closer you are to the target the more open choke you want. Use the IC for skeet and sporting clay ranges and the mod or full for trap. Some may prefer mod for SC, depends on your stye of shooting. Full is to reach out there with a tighter pattern. Hope this helps you.

  7. I agree with Mudhen. A good pad will help you about as much and would be cheaper unless you are having some issues with face slap. If so, the softer comb will definately be a benefit. Have you adjusted your gun with the shims? A proper gun fit will will help. However 3" and 3 1/2" are what they are.
  8. Take the barrel off and look in the chamber end. You will see 2 or 4 small port holes in directly in front of the chamber. Most likely yours will be 2 holes.
  9. I don't have the + 2 ext. but it is the same dimensions as the limiter tube and if yours is a factory +2 ext. you can simply remove the barrel swap the two out and reinstall the barrel. Its that easy. The neck bulge will be behind the barrel ring and does not cause a problem. It will fit just the same as the limiter.
  10. The M2 has a Crio treated barrel and choke tubes, larger trigger guard opening and Comfortech stock if so equipped along with quick change pads for adjustable LOP, shim kit for drop and cast adjustments and stainless action spring tube assembly. Thats the main differences off the top of my head.
  11. They are the older tubes and not the Crio tubes.
  12. Actually I said they feel alike, but I was wrong. They do feel similar mainly because of the raised rib, however the Cordoba will feel longer due to the longer receiver and of course the 28" vs 26" barrel and longer slimmer forend. The M2 will definately feel shorter and the forend will feel a little wider and it is shorter. The Comfortech's will be the same. I would suggest she shoulder and point both and let her decide if thats possible. I know with women its hard to try to get it right sometimes no matter what you do. Right??? Or is it just me? It will depend on her stature. My 28" SS is exactly the same length as my SBE II. I prefer longer guns. She may not. I hope this helps. I hurried my first post on my way out the door heading to work.
  13. Either one will do fine. The M2 has a 26" barrel. The Cordoba has a 28" barrel and is ported and has extended choke tubes. If your mostly hunting probably the M2. A lot of clays? The Cordoba. They both feel very much alike and they are both adjustable the same ways. I have a 20 ga. SS I use mostly for clays and love it.
  14. This link should explain it for all Italian guns. Look for the box on your receiver. Mine is on the lower left side directly under the trigger housing takedown pin. Mine is CA so its an 06. http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=73492
  15. No. Thats one of the main differences between the two. The Nova stock is part of the receiver and not removeable.
  16. Well maybe if I wait a bit longer I could get a grand for mine. LOL I wish I would have seen this coming sooner. I would have stocked up and thought about retirement. I'm always standing on the wrong dock... NUTS. I'm glad I got mine too.
  17. Whats a fair price? Its the law of supply and demand. I paid $185 from Benelli a year ago when they were plentiful. I wish you good luck in your search. I suspect some will be on ebay soon for around 5 bills. Just like the mag ext's. I wonder if the ATF somehow gets a slice of the ebay action... Hmmm.
  18. I don't know if they have any or could get you one but have you tried contacting Benelli? I know in the past on other manufacturers guns I have sent in for service without the original box they most often are shipped back in the correct factory box. Of course you still won't have the correct label with the S# and model info. I keep my M4 in a Tactical Benelli case I got from the Benelli Gear Store but I do have the original box stored. Just a thought. Worth a try. Good Luck.
  19. Fishinhunt 31 Many trap shooters at least around here use the Briley ext. tubes. My dealer only sells Briley and they are also a trap club having registered shoots. They make a fine choke tube. I use them in my trap guns. I like their Light Full tube. Skeet chokes won't matter all that much as they are pretty much wide open and your at close range anyway. But ext. tubes are are easy to change without tools. For SC's I use IC. For hunting I like my Primos tubes. If you are really concerned about patterns there is only one way to know. Pattern it. Heres a few more links. http://www.briley.com/ http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=1815&title=X-2+SCREW-IN+CHOKE+TUBE+-+B http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=1812&title=SPECTRUM+MACH+1+CHOKE+TUBE
  20. RiceRebel I believe all things need to be judged on an individual basis. I would try different grip/holds to see if you can stop the bite first. Is there any misfit between the stock/receiver/ trigger guard? I own a SBE II, 20ga. SS, and an M4 (including the straight field stock) and have never once had my finger get bit by any of them. I have shot hundreds of other guns and thousands of rounds and cannot remember ever getting a sore finger and I also own Brownings,Beretta's,LC Smith and Ithaca Doubles and a few old Wins. Nothing. Some double trigger SxS's have articulated front triggers but that is to keep the actual trigger finger on the front side from getting ripped. Are you new to shotgunning? Have you shot many different types of guns? Some people actually relax their hand at the moment of firing allowing the gun to get them with the recoil. I don't know anything about you or your shooting style but many here are willing to try to help. Have someone else shoot your gun and see if they get bit. Do you consider youself small, avg, or large handed? Does the guns stock dimensions fit you properly? It is adjustable. Have you tried any adjustments? Are you a big guy? It may be too short of a LOP. Are you a small guy? It may be too long a LOP. Most guns are set up for the average shooter size. I consider myself avg size. You may not be. It simply seems if most of us can shoot pain free ( except for recoil at the shoulder) it may be something you are doing to cause it, or your gun doesn't fit correctly. Keep in mind Benelli's are also lighter than most guns. I would be d@#$ed if I had to buy gel pads or bandaids to go shoot my gun comfortably. Any other M2 owners having this problem. Lets here from you. If Benelli has a problem here let them know about it.
  21. Not sure on the 12/20 interchange but I do know you can't buy a Comfortech from Benelli. They will not sell them unless you can send them one you have destroyed and they will also verify it by S#. I have tried through my Benelli dealer with no luck. I have heard they do, but rarely/occationally turn up on ebay. One of these days I may try and see if my SBE II and 20ga. SS will in fact interchange. They look close but only one way to know for sure.
  22. Thanks for the heads up on info thats good to know.
  23. Tucker is correct again and I was going to mention that fact but failed to do so, and you have also not mentioned what you want your choke for. Target shooters want longer shot strings to hit fast moving targets with more of a sweeping motion. A chipped bird counts as a hit in clay games but in hunting it usually counts as a cripple or a lost bird. Depending on your intended use they may have advantages or disadvantages. Any more insight as to your uses? You can spend a ton of $$ on different tubes but it comes down to your need and what your after, type of shells your using, etc. You may take a Tom at 40+ but you'll never hit a hard left or right on the 16 yd line. Unless of course your really good...??
  24. I apologize for my error previously by saying the shot string lengthens. I was tired. I meant to say shortens. There are many other makers using this technology. Heres some links for you. Porting IMO is only to help keep muzzle jump down. http://www.wadwizard.com/about.htm http://www.wadwizard.com/ http://www.patternmasterstore.com/view_demo.htm http://www.rhinochokes.com/main.htm http://surecycle.com/default.asp?page_id=14&parent_id=13 http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?p=71462 http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?p=765156&sid=79f95671530a57fcaa61633aec6f93cf http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/search.php?searchid=13513
  25. I have a 20ga. SS that I use exclusively for clays. So far I love the gun. It cycles AA target loads fine for me. It swings ands handles nicely for me and I compare its feel to my SBE II only a little lighter. It is the same as the Cordoba, only cosmetic differences. Both of them would be fine for hunting however they are ported. Of course the M2 and Legacy are not. I do like the raised rib and extended choke tubes. The Cordoba and SS also have a neat little window on the bottom of the forend allowing you to see what is in the magazine. Kind of a nice feature. I believe the 20ga. M2 only comes in a 26" barrel. The Cordoba and SS are 28" if thats an issue for you. They are also a breeze to clean.
