    HK Handguns

Hey All, I very much appreciate all opinions offered. I got a chance to rent and shoot the full size Standard USP .45 at a nearby range today. I like the general feel and ergonomics of the controls except for the mag release as used from the thumb side felt a bit awkward but since getting an XD a few years back I've grown to like using my index finger on the ambidexterous release (a feature I previously never expected to use) Anyway, the USP mag release felt very natural to use from the index finger side. I thought the trigger was great in SA and the DA felt good to me too although I haven't fired that many DA autos to compare it too. I currently own Glocks and an XD. I owned a few 1911 variants since the late 70s but I'm no longer the 1911 fan that I once was. I wasn't thrilled with the plain black sights. I would be nice if they had white outline or dots but it looks like they are easily replaced with Trijicons or others. One thing I didn't like is the empty mag didn't drop away, I'm not sure if that is normal or just because this was a very dirty range rental gun. I think I'm going to add one of these to the stable but I'm going to try out the USP Expert first to compare, A range /shop about an hour north in San Jose has the expert available for rent I'll keep you guys posted.... Thanks again for your thoughts Sorry to burst your bubble Rocket W19. I guess CAs problem with the HK45 is no mag disconnect And yes Skeeter "Tejas es mas bueno" later guys, Hookster

Hey All, After checking out a friends HK USP compact .40. I've been thinking about getting a Standard USP in .45 or the USP Expert in .45. Anyone here have either one and opinions they's like to share? I know the Expert runs about $400 more but that's not an issue, I don't mind stimulating the economy....... FYI The HK45 and USP Tactical would be my first choices but those are both no-nos here in CA. Later, Hookster
  4. Hi T&N and welcome to the forum. There is an excellent post by remarkable in post #2 of this thread that addresses the recoil spring tube cleaning and spring replacement. http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9475 The cartridge drop lever allows you to eject the round in the chamber without feeding the next round from the mag tube. Say that your tube was loaded with 00 and you wanted to fire a slug round. You can eject the chambered 00 and drop in a slug. Later, Hookster
  5. Hi TennVol, Welcome to the forum, I've heard lots of good reports on Surecycle (SRM) extensions. I'm using their follower and spring in my M1S90. Later, Hookster
  6. Hi CWP and welcome to the forum! I don't have a Nova or Supernova but you could check out the manual for the breakdown instructions. It's available to download as a pdf here: http://www.benelliusa.com/downloads/manuals.php take care, Hookster
  7. Hey Cabo, sorry it's becoming such a headache for you. Thread direction is normal, I assume you are concentrating the heat on the receiver itself (as opposed to the tube) since it will soak up the heat more efficiently. Perhaps a strap wrench would give you more twisting power if you are trying to turn it by hand but you'd need to take it easy until you are sure everything is well heated. I had a laser surface temp thermometer standing by but never needed it. When mine released it only moved a little bit and I had to keep at it and eventually got into a heat and turn a little, heat and turn a little rhythm. I hope all goes well Hookster

  15. Hi JYP1911 and welcome to the forum, My M1S90 forend is solid with no play. If you are missing a washer, you should be able to find it on page #5 of Numrich's M1 S90 parts list here: http://gunpartscorp.com/catalog/Products.aspx?catid=10308 Later, Hookster

  17. Hi tcutlermd and welcome to the forum. Does the manual have the exploded parts diagram? If it shows two screws being used to secure the rear sight like Tucker mentioned, it would seem like removing them would produce the desired result. I can't see it being unremovable unless it's welded on there. If you don't have the parts breakdown diagram. Numrich may offer it in their schematics section. What kind of scope do you want to mount? 18. +1 on the TW25B, Great stuff......

  20. Red filter will keep your dark adapted vision intact I've got the Surefire M500 on one of my ARs too (with flip up red filter). Great system!
  21. Hi Dr Or and welcome to the forum. There have been several reports of fit issues with the FAB I believe it is also marketed as the MAKO. I recall people having to take a dremel to them to get them to fit well. The design doesn't appear to aid in cooling much either. I run the Surefire M80 but only as a 922r compliance part. My accessories (light and switch are all mounted to my Sidearmor rail. Sidearmor also offers an optional side shell carrier if you are not married to the idea of a Mesa. Here's a pic of mine: The KZ is also a fine option. I reviewed it here: http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19590&highlight=kz+review and the Surefire here: http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19942&highlight=surefire+m80+review Everyone that has the B&T seems very happy with it, The only downside is it is not a 922r compliant part (Swiss) if you choose to worry about that. Although, once the Mesa Urbino stock comes out you could get around that if you were worried. Later, Hookster
