  1. I use the bolt handle to get mine started. I use it to remove the ARGO plugs too. The firing pin is tough. As long as you're not prying with it or driving it with a three pound sledge, it would be fine to use. If it breaks, I'm sure Benelli will replace it in 6 to 8 weeks.
  2. I believe the factory rail is not anodized as hard as it should be. Even the midgets at FN put a proper top rail on their shotgun. The SideArmor has the same cut, but it has held up perfectly. Factory FAIL (top) vs. SideArmor (bottom). Come to think of it, the factory rail seems to be more of a bottom. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2443/3619213050_c00cd205cf_b.jpg
  3. If LaRue won't waranty it, flip the mount 180 degrees so the lever is on the opposite side. The other side of the lug is in ok shape.
  4. Wow. That sucks! 25 rounds of birdshot? That factory rail is a POS. The only thing I'd mount on it is the underwear bombers colon. The SideArmor has ate up a 1000 rounds of various type since I mounted my T-1, and not a single mark is present.
  5. It'll get easier in time. They're stiff when new.
  6. I have a big dot on my M4 in the BUIS. Just n the front post though. I couldn't get the rear Troy sight apart to replace the aperature. The big dots are for CQB. The blade is quite large. Mine has the tritium stripe in it rather than just a dot.
  7. Also, it weighs 3 - 4 ounces. Very light weight. Considering I removed an ounce of rail covers to install it.
  8. The KZ or the Surefire M80 would be needed to make it work. See how we brought the off topic back on? You use the same grip you do with a pistol. Your four fingers wrap around the front of the AFG and your thumb runs horizontally down the side rail or over the top rail. I set the grip on the rail so my thumb is positioned within reach of my X300's activation switch. Depending on what light you're using, this grip may or may not work. It depends where the activation switch is relative to where you've mounted the grip. You won't chicken wing the rifle with this grip. If you try, you end up over extending your wrist. So it is more comfortable to actually hold the rifle properly. With your fingers wrapped around the grip, you have a lot of leverage to pull the rifle into your shoulder without fatiguing your hand by squeezing and pulling. I think the reason the covers don't always fit depends on what rail you're using. Each rail maker is different as they all try for a slim line package. The MRP's rails are quite compact, so this might be the reason it didn't fit. 20 minutes with a light grit sander fixed everything.
  9. If the original poster wants us to stop cyber squatting on his lawn, we'll gladly move on dot org. I got the Magpul Angled Forward Grip today. It works great with my X300. I can see how it would be a NOGO with the Scout Light. However, Magpul did some strange things with this piece. When installed, you cannot mount rail covers (even ladder rails on on the sides rails directly above the unit. I have no clue why they did this. So I modified the AFG so they would fit. 20 minutes with my pen grinder and the rail covers now fit as they should. The covers actually blend perfectly with the AFG. I think it has some potential on a Benelli. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2729/4280472135_b43d8b069b_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4007/4280472273_0381d430af_b.jpg
  10. Looks good. I can't wait to fondle it next week.
  11. You don't need any pads. The M4 is one of the softest recoiling shotguns you'll ever shoot. If you want to make it easier for her to shoot, look into the Mesa Tactical Urbino stock with its shorter LOP. Then cut as much weight as possible so she can hold it up without fatigue. A titanium mag tube is the best way to reduce weight and add function. I don't know anyone who has gotten the polished or matte magazine tube. Most simply go with black or tan to match their base gun's finish.
  12. The Cobra buckle system would be compromised by using the QD mounts. The Cobra is tough enough that you could hang from the sling without worrying about breaking anything. I would not trust a QD mount to hold under that level of load. Saying that, the Cobra isn't worth buying if it isn't attached in a secure manner. You might run into issues with the Cobra buckle banging against your weapon too. If you don't mind, it is fine then. As for the AFG, I'm not sure if I will like it either. I hope it works okay with the placement of my X300 at the 12 o'clock rail position. I'm concerned my front sight will be in the way. We'll see, I can live without if it doesn't work out.
  13. It won't work with QD mounts. It uses the standard straps only. If you're set on using it, GearSector sells mounts that will attach to the rail. http://www.gearsector.com/view/product/169/
  14. Both are excellent. I have a Daniel Defense mount on my Benelli. I'd buy the GearSector over it though. It's a little more low profile. Both have the same limited rotation feature.
  15. VCAS, yes. I've been spelling it wrong forever. Sorry.
  16. There are a few different makers of QD sling mounts. Some are easy to release, some are a real PITA. You want the PITA ones. You can generally tell by how small the release button is. They should absolutely be recessed into the swivel too. The swivel studs on the VTAC sling from Vicker's are great as you can see below. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4038/4273002037_03e6199500_b.jpg Photo taken after several miles of hiking yesterday in some light hail and rain.
  17. The way they tell at ebay is if there are keywords like AR15. That is the only way those morons can determine what should or shouldn't be on their site. They pulled a M93B magpul stock I was trying to sell. There were a dozen of them on the site at the time, but they were smart enough to avoid the trip wire words.
  18. Could always have your factory pistons engraved MADE IN USA and NP3 coat them if you're real worried about it.
  19. Looks like a good start. I agree, you'll want more material on the over travel stop. It, and the face that impinges on the bolt carrier group are the highest stress areas on the unit. The over travel stop causes the piston to reverberate upon impact. This leads to some sheering forces along the thinner portion of the shaft since it is relatively unsupported. Have you checked the weight of the two to see if they're in the relative area of each other? Any thoughts on if weight differences would affect the action?
  20. If your M4 exhibits this greenish hue, it won't be that bad. It takes certain light for it to be observed. I'll try to take a photo of both my old and new one soon in some good lighting for comparison. I like the hue better than the burned finish on my older unit.
  21. I sold my heavily used one for 130 - 140 dollars on Gunbroker about 5 months ago. I think a lot more people are willing to remove the entire magazine tube now. There are much better solutions available in that price range also.
  22. The Meprolights are actually very well designed. The rear sights are very small for a reason. They aren't really meant to align the three dots in the dark. They're present to give you a small visual cue to where the rear ghost ring is. Due to the design of the M4, your face is very close to the rear sight. Having extremely bright lamps close to your eyes can impair your sight in the dark.
  23. There are export rules regarding shipping firearm parts overseas. However, most shotgun accessories are exempt. We spoke with Kip about a week ago or so, and he said he was aiming for end of February or March. However, I wouldn't hold my breath.
  24. Outstanding! What light mount is that?
