  1. All they are telling you is to shoot the gun. Because it is new, and the parts have not been worn it to each other, there might be a little friction problem. Shooting heavier loads, will by nature, give more recoil, speeding up the break in process. Your shotgun may not need it. Some don't. I own a few of these Benellis, and I promise you that once you get a few rounds through it, keep it oiled, and clean, it will shoot most anything you run through it. They tell you that minimun load is 3 dram, 1 1/8 oz. loads, but once she is "loosened up", 1 oz. will more than likely cycle without a problem. Good luck with the SBE ll, they are great shotguns!! And, welcome to the world of Benelli.. Mike
  2. My guess would be in Mudhens' and Tuckers' freezers. At least you got a few roosters. You can't beat that. Better luck with the ducks next time... Mike

    Plug Removal

I've take a bunch out with a screwdriver myself, but every now and then, the whole shootin' match goes flying. Then your on your hands and knees looking for the retainer. Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt. I came across this tool in Brownell's one day and just had to try it. Works well and is virtually fool proof. http://http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/cid=0/k=menck+magazine+corkscrew/t=P/ksubmit=y/Products/All/search=menck_magazine_corkscrew.
  4. The bigger the better. Several boxes would not hurt a thing, except maybe his shoulder. It takes a while to loosen up the moving parts. Break it in, keep it oiled, and it will perform flawlessly for a long time. They are great shotguns.

Tucker.. Thanks for putting the direct link in there for me. I was not sure how to do that. Mike
  6. That's funny!! There really is nothing worse than having a big spear and not knowing how to use it..

    Plug Removal

Magazine Corkscrew SKU #:590-020-000 This is the best tool that I have found for removing the retainer for the mag. tube. Available at www,brownells.com You can also use a snap ring pliers. Last resort you use a screwdriver to pry out the retainer. This is not advised unless last resort. In any case you need to make sure you put your hand over the mag. tube, to keep the spring from flying out. It is under some tension. It really is an easy deal, with the right tools. Good luck...
  8. That will be a post worth waiting for..
  9. Yes to all of the above, and make sure that there is ample oil on the rails and other moving parts in the receiver..
  10. What size spear do you use...
  11. Would killing a turkey with a 3'' instead of a 2 3/4'' then be considered a semi- macho thing?? Also, by buying the 10 ga. you are admitting that there just may, in fact, be a need for a shotgun larger the the 3''. Again, good luck with the new Vinci. ______________

Here we go again. Saturday morning, Starbucks, and Pictures af a beautiful Benelli. Life is good...
  14. At times the 3.5'' may seem unnecessary, but along with the extra 1/2'' in length comes a handful of pellets. There are occasions where more pellets is a good thing. I turkey hunt with a 3.5'' SBE, and I will take all the pellets I can get. My theory is, Why do you hunt with a 3.5? Because they don't make a 4.0''... As far as the ammo being 30% more expensive, that is a stretch. You can buy Hevi-Shot 13 in 3.5'' for $20 and the 3'' is $18. That's 10%. It is more, I will grant you that, but you get more bang for your buck with the 3.5''. (Pun intended) I agree with you that many animals have been harvested with lesser weapons, but technology has advanced. I'm sure someone along the line killed a huge tom with a .410. Not for me. Enjoy your new Vinci. They are great shotguns, you will not be dissapointed.
  15. I've had mine for several months and really do like it. I have around 1,000 rounds through it without any hiccups. They are all trap loads of different varieties (whatever is cheapest). I have not shot any high brass out of it. Light, swings well, minimal recoil, and easy to clean, but they all are really.. I would like to see a mag ext. where you could at least put 5 in gun. The more I shoot it, the better I like it. A worthy shotgun, in my opinion...
  16. I know they are set up to quickly change the mag. tube. I am not aware of any mag ext. out there yet.
  17. Beautiful!! Are those the rare, ever elusive White Bills from down under?? Sporting their winter plummage of Snow Camo? Hard to see, hard to kill, and even harder to capture on film.. Great job, keep the pics coming.
  18. I have sent you a P.M. Mike
  19. The Nova bead will lower the POI, but how much I really don't know. The Easy hit is a great sight and it is hard to miss it when you pull the gun up. I see no reason why you couldn't put an 1/8" shim under the Easy Hit, tape it back on and try it. You may only need 1/16". Trial and error. I would find some stainless steel shim though and some good epoxy. Shim the entire length of the sight. Make sure it is right before you epoxy it on, and don't epoxy over the existing bead threads, if you have removed it. I would leave the old sight on and put the Easy Hit directly behind the original. A larger fiber optic would work, but they are hard to find. Most are just magnetic. At least you have it where you can shoot it. Worst case scenario is you leave it where it's at. Sounds like you can adapt. Let me know how it shakes out... Mike
  20. I put an Aimpoint red dot on my SBE and love it. The batteries last about 5 years. You will have to put a base on the gun for most red dots, but that is not a big deal. Four screws.. There is nothing like putting that dot on a gobblers head and touching one off!! That's good stuff... Enjoy!
  21. Quote: Supernova+camo+steadygrip+reddot+turkey choke+hunting tag(for 20 years)+camo gear+decoys+turkey vest+turkey calls+turkey blind+lunch for the weekend+gas+turkey mount+hunting knife+ammo= less than a SBEII. SBE ll=Priceless
  22. Turkey hunting is mostly a one shot deal, not always! Both are fine guns. Both will kill turkeys equally well. If money is not an issue, I would go with the SBE ll. If it is in fact going to be a dedicated turkey gun, I would put a good red dot scope on it as well. This will allow you to zero any load and or choke that does not hit exactly where you point. I own both of these fine shotguns, and I use the SBE to turkey hunt with. The nova goes along, just in case... Good luck with your decision. Either way you will be a winner...
  23. I plead the fifth on the salt water issue. Never had to deal with it. I have dealt with Wisconsin winters and snow and rain, for forty some years of hunting, without rusty parts. I guess the salt is your problem. Sorry I was of no help.. Not much salt water in this neck of the woods. Good luck in finding a solution... Mike
  24. Why is the barrel rusting? If it is dried and then oiled, it won't rust. I do not get where this rust is coming from. Any gun that I ever saw that had a rust problem was from lack of maintenance. If you wipe it down and clean thoroughly when you get home, it should not rust, ever.
  25. I'm no expert but I will tell you what I picked up along the way. The rib height and bead height combined with the drop in the stock and how your cheek fits on the stock determines how well you will shoot a particular shotgun. If you pull up a gun and see half of the rib, you will probably shoot high, so a thicker shim would be needed, to lower the drop, and lower the POI. One gun can differ from the next, especially if they are two different models, because of the way they vary. Also, the difference between a "B" shim and a "C" shim is not earth shattering. The gun with the "C" shim may in fact be shooting a tad high for you and the "C" shim was needed to bring down the POI. The other gun vice versa. I would say that it is not uncommon to have two different models, with two different shims, and shoot both of them equally well. I would say good for you to have both of them shoot spot on, and to not sweat the small stuff... Hope this made sense.
