  1. If the oil gets near the primer, it will make them inert.
  2. If the ammo was kept dry, and away from oil, they will undoubtedly shoot. Make sure that the brass is not corroded to a point that it would be a danger to shoot. A little tarnish would be acceptable, but corroded to a point where the metal is rotting would not be a wise move. You are not really saving if you blow your action apart and lose an eye or two in the process. If they are old and clean, no problem..
  3. That's funny stuff, I don't care where your from...
  4. I am 6' 7'' inches tall. Probably the root of my problem. Great for changing light bulbs though!!!
  5. Iv'e got the thickest shim in, so the only option left is to raise the front sight. They do put a Nova style bead on the Vinci, so it is larger than normal to begin with. I put an easy hit on a SBE ll that helped to lower it's P.O.I. The easy hit is a touch larger (3mm),than the original. Hope it is enough to offset the high P.O.I. Thanks for the input.
  6. I just checked mine and it does the same. It stays loose until it locks up. My guess is that if it were under tension it would create wear every time it went into and out of battery. May have something to do with the inertia drive also. Not sure why, but I wouldn't worry about it.
  7. Mine shoots high. That's a Benelli deal and it gets me crazy!!!
  8. Truly magnificent!!! I have a deep down devotion to the Legacy and SBE line of shotguns. To see them dressed up in their Sunday best like that does a man proud...Congratulations M1014. They are gorgeous.. Mike
  9. They are interchangeable. The Optima Plus is the same as the Benelli Crio series, i.e. SBE ll and such. The Benelli mobile choke series fits the old Berettas and the SBE l. Beretta and Benelli are cousins of sorts. The choke that you have will work fine.
  10. I just got done shooting my new Vinci. With the "C" shim in it, it shoots 6'' - 8'' high at 20 yards. I will buy a 3mm easy hit this weekend and see how much that helps the situation. It was dead nuts left and right. I might need something 3.5mm, we will see.

That is truly a work of art..You've got to back off a little bit M1014, you are starting to lap the field. Congrats. on the new piece...

    cool lookin

When it comes to boobs, anything over a wheelbarrow full is wasted.
  13. Also, make sure that the white dot is in the window on the forearm. If the knob on the end of the forearm got turned, the take down button will have to be depressed and the knob turned a quarter turn. And don't get the mallet out. Something very minor is keeping it from going together.
  14. Make sure that the shim is in straight. When I changed the shim, I did not have it flat against the butt stock, and had the same problem. The bbl. would go on, but I could not get the trigger/ forearm to go on all the way. Look at the shim and make sure it is flat all the way around. If not, loosen the nut/thread assembly and straighten the shim and retighten. Let me know..
  15. I just got done taking it all apart. I'm sure it will be a little easier the second time around. All in all, not so bad. Changed the shim to "C", and hopefully will get to pattern it tomorrow. So far, so good. A little more detailed to take apart, but still pretty basic. Once you understand what they want you to do. Thanks Wyobirdhunter...
  16. I looked at my SBE ll and did not see any spots on the inside of the bbl. Maybe just a hunk of plastic or fouling. I sure wouldn't think that it would be an issue..I am not an expert, but if it were mine, I would shoot it as normal, and keep an eye on it when cleaning. Maybe we will get some more input. Stay tuned...
  17. I just brought my new Vinci home. 26''bbl. and Realtree camo. I guess I will find out soon enough if it comes out. The guy at Cabela's wasn't sure. I will get back to you on how I like after I get some rounds through it.. Thanks
  18. That was the plan "B" part. Changing the front sight to a larger one. Either a bigger diameter fiber optic sight, such as the Easy Hit, or the larger sight used on the Novas. Good luck...
  19. Try putting the thickest shim in and then test it. You will then know if it is low enough or still to high. If it is still to high, then we go to plan "B".
  20. I had a black SBE l. I had Gander Mountain camo it about 7 years ago. It has held up great, easy to take care of, rust free, and well worth the money I spent to have it done. They really do a great job. If you want to have it done, don't hesitate, it is a good process. I only turkey hunt with this gun, so it really doesn't get beat up like a waterfowl gun, but the camo is like new, still. I don't think you will be sorry...
  21. I agree that a dedicated trap gun should have a high point of aim. That is a given. I also agree that a turkey gun should shoot where it is pointed. As far as the winged game, you have to do what works best for you. It is like follow through. Find the way that works for you and stick with it. You can't keep changing and be consistent, and being consistent is what it's all about. Good luck...
  22. I don't disagree at all. 40 some years ago, none of the guns were set up that way, except for the trap grades, with a raised rib and high comb, so that you could float the target. The rest were field grade, which is what most hunted with. I have no problem with a gun that shoots high, as long as every one that you own shoots the same way, or you will have problems.
  23. Some like to float the target above the bead, and some don't. I think it depends on what you started with. I grew up hunting ruffed grouse, in heavy cover with whatever gun I could get my hands on. There was, and still is, not much time to think about aiming below the bird. You pretty much point and shoot as quick as possible, before it's out of sight. If a person started out trap shooting, pheasant, or duck hunting with a gun that was set to shoot 12'' higher than point of aim, I believe you would be comfortable shooting in that manner. IMHO if its close enough to "cover" with the bead, it will go down. If a lead is needed then you see the target, and the lead. Moot point. Each to his own, whichever you prefer..
