  1. The 2 photo upload is killing me...... as I was sayin', the easy-to-make roll pin punches are a joy to use on the AR platform as well.
  2. If you need longer punches, parallel, roll pin, or roll pin holders........you can easily fabricate your own.....use the desired size drill rod stock, and simply modify a brass punch to insert the drill rod into......here's an example of such a good looking punch. This one I use for removing AR bolt latch pins, as I really don't care for the 1/2 diameter variant that is often recommended. This particular punch is also handy to remove the carrier latch button roll pin on the Benelli's which require a long reach to prevent scratching the receiver with the shoulder of shorter punches.
  3. The solution is to get some Wiha German made parallel and starter punches.....precision and nicely hardened. Here's the metric set compared to the Starretts.
  4. Stranger.......nice job. I see you use Starrett punches - they're the best.
  5. If you had the Benelli M4 Anatomy Series Manual you could see exactly how to do it.
  6. The 5.7 is a nice shooter........but the grip is a little large, as BilleeDee mentioned, and it has switches. A quick comparison to the 1911. Recoil mechanism……5.7 is a “delayed” blowback with fixed barrel……….. .45 is either a Browning drop link mechanism (std. Colt style) or a drop barrel breech mechanism (M&P styled) Trigger mechanism……5.7 single action only versus either single action (Colt styled) or DAO (M&P styled) Hammer………both have one, the 5.7 is concealed within the slide cover, ….classic Colt styled .45 has external hammer whereas M&P styled is hammerless Std magazine capacity……5.7 is 20 rounds, .45 is 8 rounds single stack Cartridge……..5.7 ~ 31 grains……..45 cal 165 to 230 grains (7.4 times the mass of the 5.7) Cartridge diameter……5.7 is ½ size of the .45 (Kinetic Energy =1/2 * mass * velocity2) [ Ke of 5.7 = 8.2 x 106 versus Ke of .45 = 12.7 x 106 ] Velocity……..5.7 is supersonic ~ 2300 fps versus subsonic .45 ~ 950 to 1050 fps (the mass of the .45 overcomes the 2:1 velocity differential to deliver more energy at the muzzle at least!) Recoil…..5.7 virtually none; .45 legendary Accuracy…..5.7 very good within an 1” of custom 45 platform at 25 yards
  7. We already knew that......if you had a M4 Anatomy Manual you would have known it too ! Just sayin'.
  8. Just got my stamp on a SBR......6 months!
  9. Here's the MS3 QD sling mounted on a Noveske N4 10.5" .......I need to practice converting from single point to dual point attachments. The para-clip works well to secure it to a forward mounted "empty" QD point. It feels as though it holds the gun in close to the chest on single point attachment.....the sling portion about the neck is not padded, so it may rough up the neck somewhat.
  10. Here are some alternative Italian made 2-1/4" high-brass mini slugs, which I have not tried in the M4 yet. These can be used in Benelli's Italian brethren, the Franchi SPAS 12, in pump action mode, as the automatic mode requires a stout cartridge to cycle it properly. Using these would only change the SPAS 8+1 loading capacity to 9+1.
  11. The closure on the laser deal is taking her to range......let her shoot 10 shots at 3-7 yards with the same gun, with / without the laser ........sold !
  12. TacForce makes a really nice padded case.
  13. I just picked up a MS3 sling today to tinker with a Noveske N4 SBR.......report to follow. As for the single point with a C-stock.....au contraire mon frere' I don't doubt that Mesa recommends as you say, but..... ALWAYS.Always.Always.......work on the least expensive part ........or the part that is the most readily available.....in this case, if you need a QD attachment point for your C-stock, and you don't want to use one of the options mentioned earlier in this thread.....then just chuck the Mesa tactical screw into a drill (or drill press) and reduce its external diameter down to fit nicely thru the existing roll pin aperture.....don't screw up an expensive stock.
  14. The best response might be to partition the response.......there are those that dedicate a lot of time and energy and expense in training to respond to a personal defense situation and understand all the permutations of options and Plans A/B/C etc for self-defense......whereas those that exhibit only a casual interest in the topic until SHTF, should be afforded the best opportunity to succeed in the moment of need........the employment of a laser guided gun significantly truncates the learning curve of delivering a result on target and therefore meets their immediate needs ! The cost justification of a quality laser equipped self-defense platform is hard to quantify when the device may never be used, however when it is needed and used just once its value is incalculable. She's worth every penny.
  15. The Wilson CQB is a nice piece. What photos on topic do you need to see ?
  16. RocketW19 was mostly interested in 380......got side tracked on last few posts.......the Sig p238 is a great .380 auto, like a 1911 mini-me (but has switches).......the Ruger LCP is also nice, that easy light, double action, no switches and not expensive. If not the larger revolver, perhaps a pocket gun with adequate kick would do and not break the bank.
  17. Here's a few more from the inventory that have more demerits than advantages for most ladies, in my opinion. The P30 feels good, adjustable backstrap for their smaller hands, but burdened with levers / switches that the occasional user finds intimidating or can render the gun almost useless if not properly managed (in the dark under adverse stressful conditions). The P2000Sk has plenty of knock down, but like the .40, the recoil is way to snappy for most ladies. The P7 is nice, but has switches......the hardest thing is for the ladies grip size and strength; to depress the cocker with just 3 fingers without quickly tiring and the grip is kinda of large for most gals to feel like they can comfortably hold / control the gun. The P7 shoots like a dream. Anyone interested in the P7, I have a Anatomy Series Manual for it that is really nice.
  18. Know that a strobe feature is a 2-edged sword........everyone in the illumination field has to deal with the strobing feature.....to the adversary it's supposed to be disorienting (as though the bright LED is not enough).....and in part to conceal the exact location of the source of the strobe (that would be the operator GPS location)......using common sight alignment / sight picture technique in the setting of a flashing strobe can be problematic for the operator unaccustomed to doing so....this is a situation wherein a laser accessorized weapon can be an advantage for the operator in placing the "dot" on the target. There is no free lunch.
  19. Here's what the little lady of the house has on the bedside table. 357 Mag, ported barrel, crimson laser........and a bright light!!! A hammerless revolver has the merits of not handicapping the occasional user with a concern about "all the switches" found on a semi-auto.....they can't accidentally drop the magazine when they hit the magazine release when the depress it in the heat of the moment.....then those guns with the magazine disconnect are useless....the laser targeting obviates the user having to acquire a proper sight alignment and sight picture......red dot / shoot the shot !.........only after clearly seeing the bad person with a bright LED light....the laser obviates direct confrontation with the bad guy.....concealment / cover behind any portal in the house or over the edge of the mattress.....no bad guy is going to linger about after the first round is discharged.......keep it simple for the girls. Practice with .38 special and load with .357 magnum...10-25 rounds very few months.....like riding a bicycle. The book title was chosen just for fun.....installed magnets in the hard cover to keep it securely encased.....even the maids think it's just a book she's never finished!
  20. It's not a bad strategy......don't knock it until you've tried it!........worked for me to secure some Elites.....Tactical and Professional size.
