  1. need to re-evaluate your definition of a shot gun expert.. It does, in fact, make a difference.
  2. teflon coating the internal parts is asking for trouble IMHO. . . all I envision is chipping teflon flying all over.
  3. Diesel 1 - Benelli USA 17603 Indian Head Hwy Accokeek, MD 20607 P: 301.283.6981 F: 301.283.6988 give 'em a call and ask about it.
  4. I think what you might have seen is shot shell adapters (gauge reducers)..

    M1014 Price

watch out for that M1014 character .. He's a little off center .. M1014 ... did I see a cheek pad on your Practical?? ya old duff lookin' great guys!!
  13. A .22 mag should do the trick .. but its a light squirely load in wind. I guess when it comes to that range and terrain .. any mentioned cartridge above would be great. .223 is by far cheaper to shoot tho .. Optics is your main concern here .. Bushnells 3200 Elite series is IMHO the 'best bang for the buck' eye relief and light transmition are great and compare nicely with Leupolds similar lines .. especially in the pocket book catagory. for what it's worth....
  14. naw ... just rip'er apart and give it a good cleaning.. strip it down to bare bones and clean everything of the factory's lube job and redo (lightly) with better oil. Other than that .... Let the girl EAT!! nothing like having a new member of the family hope she serves ya well!! Congrats!! [ 12-09-2004, 08:51 AM: Message edited by: birddog ]
  15. Hi Tland and welcome.. If you like the Monte .. go with it! .. same across the board as far as the general operating system. make 'er happen!
  16. luck of the draw here .. but still down in comparison... I think we all need to start trapping and hunting varmints when we can to lessen predation.. Canadians are going crazy yet .. good #'s for guys that like Goose hunting! we have the habitat ... just need to lessen the predation and the results of it.
  17. Awesome Tucker!! have a good time w/her!! what is the place hittin' your wallet for?
  18. SBE Killer - Where are you in Iowa? . . . terrain and cover... this could help determine a better round. could range from .17 all the way up to say a 270 .. ?? pick your cartridge/gun to you're quarry, cover, general weather, and distance. I'm not degrading the above posts - they're all good recomendations but, everything is just blind opinion until you put it into a situation... then we have factors to base our judgement and opinion on.. give us your factors? 19. I agree, its some great stuff and has made me a better waterfowler for sure. When guys complain about the high price I usually refrain from saying that in my experiences my shooting percentages went through the roof and dragging it out trying to explain that less shots = less $$ .. some folks like bangin' away and persistantly reject the thought that it IS a better way to go because of the initial cost difference. I remember a hunt where i was sitting in the duck blind as a kid listening to my father, grandfather and uncles joke that you have to shot'em three times with steel .. #1 - to slow 'em down, #2- to knock 'em down and #3 - on the way down. Then came tungstun and bismuth .. my grandad did flips over that stuff.. (and so did the rest of us) .. and before you know it Hevishot has answered better then lead.. anywho . . . Definately give the Environmetal loads a whirl!! .. and Good luck on you hunt after Christmas. . . "TAKE 'EM!" ...
  20. all is great advice and when it all comes down to it.. and personal experiences and preferances make their case in the caliber races as well as shot situations. Something that everyone and their brother has an 'opinion' on... me included ..but, the thing to note with the lever action (and I know I'll get heat on this) is that it's not the most reliable. The Remington 700 action is probably the most sought after action by custom builders because of its reliability and acuracy.. I don't own one myself since I have taken another route into the olden days of the original John Browning patents of the auto-loader that was sold to Remington in the form of the model-8. In my own experience (as limited as it is) I favor a gun that was put into production in the late 1890's and discontinued in the 1920's. Yea, its laughable to most modern day caliber tech junkies but, in the wooded areas I hunt my Model-8 chambered in 35rem. would be nearly impossible to pry from my fingers. Lets face it .. the more a person hunts and successfully bags game with a certain firearm the more it gains favor. We could go around and around saying this or saying that about calibers, actions and guns. .. but, he truth of the matter is that Adam would be fine at 13yrs old with that NEF single shot in 45cal. Adam if you're sure the caliber/bullet is useful in your hunting range .. I couldn't say anything bad about the idea of having one.. just be careful around the open hammer design and practice until you're confidence is high in all shooting positions. and don't bipass the possibilities of a slug gun either.. Which ever route you take ..good luck. [ 12-07-2004, 10:18 PM: Message edited by: birddog ]
  21. doublebarrel - one thing to note here is that Environmetal / HeviShot is still producing their own shells and in my opinion are a better route than the Remington offerings .. Another thing about heavy shot is that you're able to drop down a shot size say from #2 to #4 or from #4 to #6 size shot .. so essentially you're pellet count/speed/energy/penetration relationship is still greater with #6 HeviShot than with #4 steel or #4 vs. #2 respectively. just something to chew on I guess.
