  1. If you're buying a gun based on its usefulness as a club, you are doing it wrong.
  2. Yep, lube up the bolt carrier until it is dripping, and shoot some heavy stuff ... Report back on whether or not it has any issues ...
  3. I am a huge fan of the AR platform. For a first AR for a new shooter? I'd build off a BCM 14.5 or 16 inch upper ... I could very easily give you a full list of parts and prices, but theres no point if I don't know what you are looking for. Long story short, $1200 or so gets you a top of the line, ultra reliable, professional grade rifle ... and you can then save up a bit and get an optic for it in a few months. You can get a decent AR for $800, but you are compromising to do so ... AKs are fun, but they are not in the same realm. It's like comparing a farm truck to a BMW.
  4. Well, I am an "assault rifle kind of guy", and I wouldn't buy one. But additional options are always nice I suppose.
  5. Perhaps the picture is just bad, but doesn't that rail also have the "sight channel" cut down the middle ... as in, it's still a "stub" rail, just the stubs are a bit wider?
  6. I rarely ever use the sights on my M4. I've shot it enough that I can point shoot most everything ... if I do use the sights, I use only the front sight, and adjust for elevation with my body. You get used to it.
  7. Good luck with the move! I hope you get all your stuff sorted out and can start rolling out lots of high quality, properly designed products ... you've certainly put in the legwork, it would be great for you to start reaping the benefits of your labor, and for us to get access to your new products.
  8. I wish I had time. 600 acres is a lot of land to shoot on ... I'd actually get to shoot farther than 200 yards for once! Unfortunately I almost surely will be swamped with work/school this semester, as I am graduating and need to boost my GPA to a 3.3. I will keep it in mind though, thanks for the offer!
  9. Does being from NY somehow disqualify me from knowing anything about guns? I never claimed to be an authority, but I do have a lot of specific knowledge about certain things. You probably do shoot more than me at this point, I don't really have much time with my full time job and full time school. That doesn't mean that I haven't had a lot of range time, nor does it mean that I somehow have forgotten anything that I learned. I really don't know what your deal is with me ... all I did was post that your email was bullsh%t, because it IS bullsh%t. If you can't accept that, I don't know what to tell you.
  10. "Please send this to everybody on your list... this is Obama gun control by secrecy . " Obama had NOTHING to do with this bill. You're trying to paint this as "his bill", when really that is about as far from the truth as you can get. It sets a precedent about lying about Obama and accusing him of things that he has not done ... once again, the danger is that if this is kept up, when he REALLY is doing something dangerous to us people will not beleive it, because the sensationalists on the right will have lied and tried to pin countless false things on him in times past. You seem to totally not get this point. I am FAR from an Obama supporter, but at least place blame where blame is deserved, and in this instance the blame has NOTHING to do with Obama. As far as how much I've shot? I have 13,000 or so rounds through my Benelli m4, probably 15,000 through the various ARs I've had, and uhh ... 5000 or so pistol, probably more, in the year I've had my pistol permit. I've shot tons of various other guns through friends or ranges, but that is my personal round count on my main personal guns ... not that it matters. I don't have a "purpose" here. I post because I want to, and because I can. I enjoy talking about Benellis, and I help a lot of people. When I see misinformation posted, I feel the need to rectify the situation. Perhaps it is a character flaw, perhaps not. If you don't like it, tough. I never claimed to be a door kicker, and I never claimed to have shot anyone. Neither of those affect my knowledge of gun mechanics or politics. But since you are so interested in my personal history, how about you, Mr Big 2A defender ... how much money have YOU given to fighting gun control? How many meetings have YOU gone to to discuss the issues with your senators? How many congressmen have YOU sent mail to? Or do you spend all your time posting played out chain emails filled with false alarm gun control misinformation?
  11. My major is Economics, not basket weaving. I know who Cass Sunstein is and why all the conspiracy theorists hate him. I also post over on Arfcom GD, trust me, I've seen it all before. I never said that the current administration was not a threat, or that we didn't need to stay vigiliant ... I said that the HR 45 bill is a joke and is not a threat, because it isn't. That's the one YOU started this thread about, and that's the one I am talking about. You are bringing all types of other random crap into a pretty simple disagreement ... you seemed to be under the impression that this was a new bill, and that Obama was somehow behind it, and that is was a major threat to us at the moment ... none of which are true. That is all I pointed out.
  12. So, is #9 birdshot a part of your home defense plan? Because by your own statements, you felt insulted when I made fun of birdshot HD users ... Do tell. ETA - I really cannot beleive all the stupidity in this thread. Birdshot is GROSSLY ineffective at killing larger animals, and SERIOUSLY lacks stopping power. If you shoot someone in HD, you are shooting to eliminate the threat, which basically means shoot to kill. As such, birdshot is UNACCEPTABLE as a HD round. #1 buck is the absolute minimum I would ever go. If you disagree, you are doing it wrong, and you are putting yourself and everyone else at risk due to your foolishness. This is not "tactical wannabe space shuttle door gunner commando Duggan" or whatever ******** you want to call me saying it, it is hundreds of thousands of real world accounts across the globe. But hey, what do I know, maybe the best way to kill a bear is with a 20 gauge loaded with #9 shot and a cyl choke, because there is no way you could possibly ever aim under stress. I wonder why I bother sometimes.
  13. I did not offer to send her anything, I asked what she needed and asked if there was any law preventing a citizen from receiving ammo from another private individual via mail. My knowledge comes from a variety of places, the least of which is a good education in economics and politics. You spreading played out misinformation does not help our cause, it hurts it. Simple as that.
  14. What does that even mean? Because we both acknowledge the obvious fact that birdshot is less than ideal for killing large animals, it somehow makes us "GI Joes", which I guess is your way of calling us posers? So anyone who matches their ammo to the desired use/outcome is a poser ... right.
  15. Imagine that, humor and satire from The Onion ... whoever would have thought?
  16. I've given almost $200 thus far this year to the NRA and NYSRPA. Not a huge amount, but I don't make a huge amount of money as a student. How much have you given? This particular bill is not going anywhere ... others may. As such, I feel the need to contribute to the gun industry lobbying effort ... as monetary contributions do far more towards advancing our goals than does the posting of chain tinfoil emails, which only serves to paint conservatives as a paranoid bunch and desensitize gun owners to when the REAL dangerous bills come about ... you know, ones that actually have a chance of going somewhere. We have yet to see one in a while, and hopefully it will stay that way, so long as we retain a strong lobbying presence in DC. I don't mean to condemn your efforts in trying to keep others vigilant in the fight against the anti's, but if one constantly hears "THE SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLING", and each time it turns out that the sky is NOT falling, well ... they stop believing that the sky is falling, and it defeats the whole purpose of the public service announcement in the first place. In this particular case, the sky is most certainly not falling, and the continued spreading of misinformation only hurts our cause, rather than acting to advance it.
  17. What ammo do you need? Is there any law against receiving ammo in the mail from another individual in a different state?
  18. It's an act for the children! The government is protecting you from yourself, and the children from you! Hail big brother!
