  1. More should be better! When I'm in my backyard without those pesky range rules I load up my M2 with 5 shells (it can hold 6 total) and shoot on a trap station until my gun is empty, that way I don't have to count.

    VINCI

I dont think it looks that bad, but it looks to me like the "In line ID" has more parts than the origional...so I cant say it seems like the uber leap forward that was proclaimed. Plus it doesnt look like it would be really easy to pop a magazine extension on it...I love my M2
  3. Well as far as I can tell there are Crio, Crio Plus, and standard chokes. I think most current production guns (see chart at http://www.benelliusa.com/parts_and_accessories/choke_tubes.php) are Crio Plus models, while older models of certain sporting guns use crio, and older models of others and the M4 use the standard choke set. The biggest difference is that the crio plus chokes are a little longer and if you look at the pictures you can see that the threads start a ways down the choke whereas the standard variety have threads starting right at the top. You can also look at http://www.choketube.com/CarlsonsInterchange.pdf to see what I mean.
  4. I dont know why exactly you would want to unload the magazine without going through the chamber but you can do it by pressing on the CRL, you just have to press hard because you are fighting the cartridge drop lever...much easier to me just to cycle them through. I dont know what exactly to tell you about the butt pad except for the comfortech stocks you just need to pull hard because it is just fitted into a groove...maybe its the same there.
  5. sounds to me like the difference between versions of chokes... Check on the side of the ones that dont fit, does it say something like crio choke? I think the ones that dont work are of the new crio-plus variety. I dont know what to tell you about the larger diameter unless your cordoba is a 20 and the tubes are for 12. check here http://www.benelliusa.com/parts_and_accessories/choke_tubes.php and see if you can see what you have/need
  6. thats funny that you say that, I'm a lifer and I never get called...I do get some mail but not even the volume you are talking about...just funny thats all :-)
  7. now that the recoil spring is loose I would think now would be the time to try and pull the trigger group out of the bottom. That recoil spring to me is your biggest force and so if you take that off all of the other pieces shouldn't be under much tension anymore so it should come apart easier.
  8. The biggest function for me is that it allows a shell to go from the magazine to the chamber without firing. On the M2 if you just pull back the bolt handle a round does not come from the magazine unless you press the CDL, this allows you to replace the shell in the chamber without disturbing the magazine.
  9. From what I have seen of them it looks like the only feature I would even consider liking is the detachable magazine... Then again a guy brought one to the range today but didnt shoot much because of the problems he had with it...so I guess its 100% reliable when it works

its a good gun and should serve you well, I've never had any regrets about getting mine.
  11. Yes enlighten us as to what happened because the way I see it you should be able to get the magazine plug out without damaging anything...damaging a gun to remove an optional feature seems to be well down the path of madness...
  12. I shoot a lot of clays with my M2 and it does really well. Now its no fine trap/skeet O/U but I've never really cared for O/Us either. The M2 will do its job if you do your job and use it correctly, I'm a firm believer of the idea that the human is the single most important part of the effectiveness of a shotgun. I dont know that the porting or the extended choke tubes on the cordoba will make much of a difference...that and the M2's crio chokes are already pretty long so I think you are really looking at the ports as the main difference.
  13. The quality is pretty good as far as I'm concerned. The tube I got had a nice black matte finish and looked very well done. Like I said I have the +2 version and never had any problems with it. Installation was super easy, just take the snap ring out of the current magazine, put the new spring in and carefully put the extension over the spring and screw down. I wasnt careful the first time and long story short there is now a black spring mark in my ceiling... I will say this though, I was a little disappointed when it didnt come with a magazine follower, not a big deal I just used the one that was in the gun, but it made it sound like there was one. It did come with the barrel clamp but I didnt feel like I needed to put it on for just a +2. If you look at the bottom of the page I linked there is a +4 for a SBE for $50 so you could save that $60 and still have a +4.
  14. Well I would say that there are two words there that make the price $350..."Benelli" and "factory". As for the aftermarket tubes, I paid $50 for a +2 with spring for my M2 and I was sure I was getting ripped off then haha but for $350 no way... The tube has worked really well for me and there have been no problems so if you are looking at getting one I wouldn't be worried about it. I got mine here: http://www.tjgeneralstore.com/magazine_extensions.htm

  16. My M2 also came with one, I'm surprised yours didn't. At any rate I'm going to go with RUT on this one and say go to a hardware store and buy a dowel rod for $1 and cut to size. Way better deal than the plastic ones that I have seen for $15.
  17. You see NEED is a big word, I don't think you NEED to break it down and clean before the first shots...but I don't think it would hurt either. The way I see it is cleaning before gives you a chance to both get rid of any grease that might slow you down and it gives you a chance to become familiar with all the guns parts before you shoot it. If I was you I would clean it first. I dont know how much experiance you have with M2s but mine has become a tank that will eat any shell I put in, so if you get excited and shoot before cleaning I dont think you'll hurt anything.
  18. I did my own mod here: http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17814 for an M2, turned out really nicely. I think its the best thing I did to the gun in terms of usability so I'm sure you wont be disappointed. Now I know that really wasnt what you asked but the good news is I was inspired by Duggan's glowing report of his (GG&G I think).
  19. I'll be upfront and say that I dont have an M4, but an M2 seemed close enough for your general question. Remember this is just me and you will get some people that will come on here and say that I'm doing it all wrong and others will come on here and say they have put 100's if not 1000's of rounds through their gun without cleaning and they still work great. I think the rifle cleaning kit is better than nothing, but I will say that you should get a 12ga bore brush so at least you have the right size. I would think the other two things that you have besides the oil are copper/powder solvents. I wouldnt use those on the shotgun unless it was really dirty. As far as the benelli oil, I'm sure its decent oil so you can use it but by no means HAVE to use it. What I usually end up doing after shooting is running a patch with some oil on it through the barrel unless its really dirty, in which case I move to the brass brush/solvent. And then I take apart the rest of the gun and wipe down all the parts with an oil filled rag. Now when I say oil filled rag I mean a rag that I put a little oil on each time I clean a gun so after a while it just is a rag that always has some oil on it. Put it all back together and put a little lube in critical places and we are good to go. Doesnt take too long, and usually the gun isnt really that dirty so I'm not too worried about it. Like I said before thats just me and my advice, and like a few others around here I will say "its worth exactly what you paid for it :p".
  20. I've gotten my M2 to cycle just fine with 1oz and 7/8 oz loads, I think the biggest factor is putting some heavies through it initially and cleaning it religiously.
  21. Basically Duggan is saying that the rail on the gun is not really mil spec and so it doesnt really work with the mil spec optics that he is trying to use. See the thread: http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17908 for the real explaination complete with pictures :-)
  22. Yeah thats the funny thing, coyote "season" is basically a free-for-all in that I can use any legal gun I so desire including "high capacity semiautomatic rifles" (yay assault weapons) EXCEPT a shotgun with slugs. Deer season is ONLY a shotgun with slugs... I blame chicago haha
  23. Unless you lived in a state like Illinois, at which point you wouldnt be doing much hunting with that proper rifle...
  24. My first thought would be to take out the magazine plug. Usually guns come with a plug for the magazine tube so you can take it hunting...hunting clay pigeons fortunately has no such pesky rules. Check the manual to see how to remove it, it shouldn't be a big deal, it took me about 1 minute for my M2.

    gun oil

I would say if you have a bunch of rem oil I would not run out and get anything new before you run out. I have an M2 and I just use the Hoppes 9 that came with my cleaning kit and it works beautifully. Now CLP may be better as everyone says but I'm cheap like that haha.
