  1. With the upcoming seasons I wont have the time to, maybe sometime in the off season. One idea for the design if I ever decide to try it seriously, is using heat to increase pressure. I could get some serious speed with a proper fitted heated pipe, but the cartridge probably won't fly strait enough to make 2 foot groups at 10 yards. I would need to really commit to design something accurate.
  2. The super nova is usually great quality but the $1k+ autos, that is a new level of quality.
  3. Depending on how you shoulder it changing the pitch can change POI. If you shoulder it pointing strait, it may not make a difference, if you shoulder it with the recoil pad lined up and then worry about pointing it can make a difference.
  4. No it was out of my 870 express. I had a pattern almost as good out of my M2 with a full choke but I have no pictures.
  5. Yes you can, sabot slugs wont be very accurate, rifled slugs will be better, I would shoot it out of a modified choke or looser, and it is safe to shoot out of a full, but it may need serious cleaning afterwards.
  6. Hey tyson, thought you might like to see this pic of mine, 3" 2 oz federal FC #5 .665 non ported choke 35 yards :
  7. I am not actually going to shoot that I just thought it might be a good idea for a powder replacement, I didn't think about the liquid co2 going into the receiver. A while back, a friend of mine put one on a make shift log ramp in a fire and shot it into a field and it went in a slightly different direction and hit a grain buggy. When we checked it out it had a big bad dent in it. With a barrel to help direct the gasses, it could have enough power to kill a deer.
  8. I had the idea of co2 powered shotshells. I was thinking about using the firing pin to break the seal and shoot the slug. I realized that a co2 cartridge is about the size of a 12 ga bore, so I put it in an empty shell and what do you know. I took the primer out and drilled a big hole and the firing pin could reach the co2 easy. It is to big for the benelli bore, but maybe it would work in a 10 ga or an over bored barrel. It fits in the chamber and cycles in my 870 supermag. Here is some pics:
  9. You need to post a pic of the gun cycling, or I wont believe it. Don't worry I enjoy the pictures, heres my beauty:
  10. Add some height to your comb mole skin will work. EDIT: I prefer about 3/4 of my pattern above the aiming point, but your shooting style may vary. I recommend at least 1/2 the shot above aiming point.
  11. True, but he thought that was the true barrel ID. Oh well we will figure it out eventually
  12. Taking the pictures with natural lighting will make a big difference with cheap cameras. Take a pic of it close to a window with the sun shining in. I would tell you to take it outside but it probably will never see the light of day

    pure joy

I would like to see some pics in the daylight sun with no glare so we could see the true beauty, not a bad pic with inside lights though.
  14. I don't think you were misunderstood, OK Nova king, did you measure the barrel where the choke is or normally is? if so that is not the true ID of the barrel. That is the ID of the choke cavity or the ID of the choke if you left it in the barrel. Any where you measure a choke will give you a different diameter than the barrel, unless you measure about an inch inside the wider part of the choke, but that isn't a good way to measure either. To find the ID of the barrel, you must measure somewhere between the end of the choke or where it would be, and the forcing cone the tapered area between the chamber and barrel (looks like a cone). It is impossible to measure the ID with a standard caliper, unless you found a dowel rod that fit perfectly down the barrel and measured it.
  15. I would like to know the price to please.
  16. No, the area where the choke goes in is recessed so that if you put a pencil in your muzzle past the choke, and then pull the pencil past the choke you will feel the pencil jump down a hair. These diameters ( OD of the choke and ID of the barrel) are different. The begging of the choke's ID is bigger than the barrel ID, this means the choke OD is much bigger.
  17. No because he said he is worse with that gun and he is apparently expecting to do as good. You need experience with how your new gun shoots before expecting to shoot as good with it.
  18. Yea I have heard the limbsaver pads make a big difference. This would be a good fix if the recoil is annoying.
  19. Is doves the first things you have shot at with the gun? I would shoot clays have a friend throw them or get a $20 thrower and get used to how it shoots. Try shooting under the bird more than usual, try shooting over the bird more than usual and take time on your shots. Your gun may shoot higher or lower than your 20 ga so you need to pattern the two guns and check the POI (point of impact) 3 shots with the desired choke and a fairly close distance with a large unfolded box should work.
  20. If it cycles and you can stand the recoil then there isn't a problem. I guess the recoil spring could have gotten compressed over the years and it could make a slight difference. Check to make sure you are using the same shells and also check the recoil pads of both guns. Like I said if it works don't fix it.
  21. +1 plano makes good hard cases that are at a good price, any case that says it fits a rifle should fit your nova.
  22. Nice work kafasi! I took my M2 dove hunting this evening and got 11 doves in 3 hours. I would have gone squirrel hunting but my new 22 isn't here yet and it is a little to green and leafy and filled with seed ticks in the hardwoods. Keep up the good work.
  23. Yes I guess they may recycle but if anything a waste of money. No a ported choke has no use in the hunting situation and no use in the target shooting or tactical situations door breacers being the exception.
  24. OK I will take your word for it because they don't make 3.5" 20 ga.
  25. Yes that means less metal ON the choke, but, the metal taken off the choke is wasted metal. Because porting the chokes serves no purpose but to look cool and bring up prices, it doesn't pattern better, and usually has a slight negative affect on the patterning. It also has negligible recoil reduction, I have been down the ported choke road, I got just as sore, with just as many shots. That metal that is taken of the ported choke to make it ported is wasted because it is thrown away when it could have a more use full purpose on the choke instead of in the trash. Need more explaining?
