Which is normal? Not being able to cock the hammer with the safety on or, being able to cock it with the safety on? The OP has experienced both. Clarify please? I could have sworn that I was able to do it, now I just tried again and the bolt stops opening about an inch from the breech when trying to cock the hammer with the safety on. I'm not gonna try to force it. I must be losing my mind.....

Do you have a caliper or micrometer to measure the hammer widths? I have a Geissele hammer which, in my OEM trigger housing had quite a sloppy side to side movement exactly as the OEM hammer did. No doubt purposely engineered that way for combat conditions. When I swapped to the A&S housing, I was pleasantly surprised to find that 90% of what I considered to be excessive play disappeared. There is still some side to side play in the hammer channel which I feel is needed but, most of it has gone away with the A&S housing. I am anxious to see what the experienced M4 guys here have to say about this cocking with the safety on thing.....

Hmmmm, interesting..... When I installed the parts in my A&S, I drove out the roll pin that A&S provides for the trigger stop pin and put in my OEM solid pin, mostly because it is NP3 plated, (and StrangerDanger does it with his:)). I like solid pins but mostly because it was plated along with the other trigger group small parts. Did you try it slowly or, normal racking speed/force like you were gonna chamber a round? That said, I believe that I read a long time ago here on this forum, that you're not supposed to do that. That it is supposed to be bad for something in the trigger group, I can't remember what though. In fact someone will probably come along soon and tell me I'm full of crap. But I am sure I read it somewhere. Pretty sure it was here.

Ok, I wasn't aware of the issue with the SF remotes. I'm with you on the insistence of top quality. I did watch the TNVC video showing their product at the shot show from this year, and yeah they are nice appear high quality, too bad they are not about half the size, huh? Well, I guess the quest continues for the perfect replacement hand guards for the M4. I'd love to see one that maintained as close as possible, the same profile and size, circumference-wise, as the OEM with MLOK slots running along only at the top portion above the ribs. That might provoke even me to get something like that. Meanwhile, I'm saving my pennies for Trij. RMR.

If you were going to delete the laser wire anyway, why not just use the Surefire remote switch, it's much smaller and attaches with velcro. I know it's not programmable but, do you really need that?

Sounds good in theory but I'm not so sure of the efficacy of mounting one of those units to the OEM hand guards. The length of the switch is about exactly the length of the flats on the guards and somewhat wider than the flats are at the top of the ribs. Those things are a lot bulkier than I'd like them to be. Guess it doesn't matter when you're mounting on a railed/slotted Pringles can. So the switch would fit lengthwise taking up all the length of the flat space, and the width of it being a little wider than the flat, would cheat over the barrel and/or down over the ribbed portion of the guard, depending where you attached it on the flat- high, low, or right in the middle? Or, you're thinking of using the MLOK slot on the AVA mount for a portion of the switch and attaching a portion of it to the guard? I just picked mine up and put my support hand on the fore end and used my strong hand on the PG and just rolled the gun over and back in my support hand and it's when you realize just how small the hand guards are, not much room for anything if you want to be able to maneuver your hand around on them. I dunno, maybe I'm way off base and my feeble brain can't comprehend. Wouldn't be the first time. If anyone can figure out a way to make it work though, it's you.

Absolutely dead serious. The CA. state legislature has been running amok for decades now and this is a most recent example. AR's/AK's with the previous "bullet button" exemption for not registering as an assault weapon is finished also. Any AR/AK style weapon with features Ie:flash hider, pistol grip etc., etc, must be registered as an AW by July 2018. Only way to avoid registration is to go "featureless" by turning your AR or AK into some ridiculous abomination. All previously legally owned standard capacity magazines, you know, ones that hold more than 10 rounds, (pre 2000 ban) must now be removed from the state. They are completely banned. The magazine ban was blocked by a judge when a lawsuit was filed as he ruled it unconstitutional but, the CA. state attorney general is appealing the injunction to the 9th circuit court of appeals and they are notoriously anti-gun. So, will have to see what happens there. But, it doesn't look good. Have I ruined your lunch yet? I should clarify this about the ammo, it can be shipped to a "licensed dealer" to whom you have to pay for a "transfer" and who cannot charge more than a specified token fee (like 25$) for the transfer. And the purchase is reported to the CADOJ. Now who is going to go to all that trouble for a minimal fee just so you can get your ammo? Answer; nobody is. All the big name online ammo retailers have been sending notices/emails for months now that they will not take orders from or ship ammo to CA private individuals- period, after 12/31/17. Ok, back on topic, sorry OP.

Yeah the stock market, I get it. I tried a field stock for 2 minutes and hated it, still sitting in my safe in the box. The OEM pistol grip one fits me. Won't buy a C-stock cuz I bring my guns back and forth from AZ to CA and a collapsable on the M4 is considered an assault weapon in CA.

No, you are wrong. It does put yourself at risk for prosecution if you're caught. The consequences are written within the law, they are not implied or insinuated. They are written in the statute. It's not hype to be afraid of felony prosecution. There is risk if you don't comply. Don't pretend that there isn't. If you think that there's not a snowball's chance of you ever getting caught then, go ahead, it's your ass on the line. But don't expect that everyone should agree with you. My take on your attitude is that you don't like the law, you think it's absurd to have to replace perfectly good parts, and therefore, you don't want to follow it for those reasons. Also, it's plain to see from your posts, that it angers you to read that a whole lot of people are afraid of being caught, and for that reason alone, they will comply. You choose to rail about people who are following the law and warn others, either from fear or maybe just because it's the law. You got pissed off because you didn't get the answers from people that you wanted to see. Finally, when someone explains it to you like you're a 3-year old who wants to know why they can't have another piece of candy, THEN you're Ok.

You're not really confused about the issue, are you? You know what the law is. That's why you posed the question. Whether you comply with it or not is your choice, as it is for everyone.

This is good advice people. For me at this point in my life I always ask myself; what do I have to lose? And the answer is always the same- A LOT. Most times I think, when people get caught with "illegal" stuff, it happens purely by accident- peripheral to some other event that happens beyond one's control. Like, you're involved in a serious accident and incapacitated while transporting a gun/guns, and the cops take protective custody of them. Some stupid thing like that.

Thanks for the close-up pics of the new issue! Glad that they kept the smooth texture finish on these. Being amongst their 1st hundred customers they sold an original model to, I received an email offering this new issue at a heavily reduced price for a short time. It's tempting, but I'm leaning towards keeping my gunmetal grey model because nothing really bothers me about it on my H20. In any case, they are a very nice upgrade from OEM, either the alum., or poly.

Well good luck with the sale, I hope you get your money back. If you want to see an eye-popping difference between an aftermarket part and an OEM part, compare an OEM cast alum. trigger housing to the billet alum. one that A&S Engineering is now offering, that's an impressive difference.
