12508
Hi guys. My fft hammer seems to be wearing excessively. It has about 500 rounds on it. Thoughts?
Evolution
Don't like it. Looks like it's too soft. Have you asked them about it? Are they supposed to be heat treated for hardness?

Are they supposed to be heat treated for hardness? Hi. Haven't asked FFT yet. I have had it on a long time so I am not sure what warranty coverage there is. I know lots of people here have them. Hopefully other users can chime in. I am kinda disappointed. Not many options for hammers so I may have to reinstall the factory one and use another US made part. Milspec
Yikes! When did you purchase that one? Bad run maybe?

Milspec
Hmm ok, that's going back a ways. I was trying to identify if mine fell within the same lot. Definitely seems like something is not correct with the hardness. Edited October 30, 2021 by Milspec

StrangerDanger
This is where the Geissele hammer really shined. Those guys know heat treating well. Several of my FFT hammers have similar wear patterns. They don’t seem to be getting worse.
12508
FFT says it is normal and not a problem as long as there are no performance issues. He said he has sold 1000s and isn't aware of any failures. He also mentioned a lifetime warranty. Thanks for the replies.
Doge
Go post that on any other gun forum and you'll hear something completely opposite of normal. Like come on, even a P90 and AUG hammer is plastic and they don't mushroom like that. The bare minimum would be to get ya a new hammer but even that's too much?. 1

Piss poor heat treatment. Edited November 3, 2021 by M2_shootr

Most likely. I will probably pick up a shootingsight hammer if they ever get back in stock. A friend of mine manages a machine shop that does work (including prototyping) for the medical device industry. He has some very talented machinists on staff that like to take on projects after hours. I may see if they can knock one out for me.
