WTB -- Benelli M4 Top Rail Screw & Washers
StrangerDanger replied to StrangerDanger's topic in Benelli
Got the screws and washers today. Much appreciated. Haven't heard from the guy on ar15 about the screws. Anyone else have some for sale? I think 3 sets are needed. -
Notice how much the mount pushes against the rubberized portion of the rail assembly. I might have to trim some of the rubber. Either way, it is going to be a low profile design.
-
Someone asked how the offset GearSector mount for the Scout fit on the M80. Here are a few photos. I couldn't put the mount where I intend to mount the unit due to the twisted rails.
-
Look what Optics Planet sent me. Take a look at the rails closely. Fail. The side rails on both sides are FUBAR. It's on its way back to Optics Planet. Not really sure who is to blame or where the damage occurred. It surely wasn't during shipment.

What three guns would you take into battle/survival situations
StrangerDanger replied to Broken Legend's topic in Benelli
Carry 3 guns several miles and get back to us. Carry your supporting equipment and ammunition load out you plan to haul. A long arm and a side arm are common and easy to do. I do it weekly. Carrying 3 is a PITA and heavy. Last year on a back country hike, a friend injured his leg. So on top of carrying my gear, I had to sling his Benelli M4 and light pack. So I had my pack, his pack, my LMT MRP, his M4 and my other gear on my belt. That was a long hike back. The 12 gauge is difficult to justify due to the weight of the ammunition. I know everyone here is SOG and can hump their weight in gear across any terrain for days at a time without detection. -
Looks like it came from Surefire that way, or I got someones return that they didn't inspect very well. The damage appears to have been done before it was anodized. It looks like it was crushed in a vice, and the ends of the side rails were beaten with a hammer. The shipping box is in perfect condition. Must of been a Monday build. I'll take a picture of it when I get home. Optics planet is paying for it's return shipping. But this will probably take 2 weeks to correct.

I'll snap some tonight maybe. My m80 showed up, but it's FUBAR. The rails are all bent badly at each end. So now I'm RMA'ing it. I did force the GearSector mount on as far as I could. The offset Is is perfect. The light hugs right over the top of the rubberized portion of the m80.

Best Full Length Magazine Tube For The Benelli M4?
StrangerDanger replied to Raw Melody's topic in Benelli
Wasn't there a video of someone driving over the same titanium tube that Kip uses with a truck without it deforming? I haven't seen the Freedom Fighter Tactical tubes, but I have three carriercomp titanium tubes. I can't imagine how the fit and finish would be any better. So why pay more? Furthermore, carriercomp gives you a US made follower. Right there, you'll be two parts down towards 922 compliance. -
I'm working on a revised mounting system for the Benelli M4. The Sidearmor is nice, but it is heavy and bulky. A Surefire M80 is arriving later today. I'm going to add a Magpul AFG to it. Then attach the Surefire Scout to the rail with a GearSector offset mount. The issue is keeping the ergonomics functional. I've tried the M80 before in the past, and didn't care for it compared to the factory forearm. I intend to use LaRue index clips to cover the rail and to minimize bulk. The AFG may help. What will be nice is the entire light package will be attached to the M80. The bulky top rail won't be present. So, in theory, you could swap back to the factory handguards easily. I weighed the factory forearm before. Both halves weigh 5 ounces. A stripped M80 weighs 8 ounces. However, once you start adding rail covers, your weight will increase. The M80 will count towards 922 compliance too. For my top rail, I ordered a carriercomp replacement rail. I received it today. It is an extremely nice replacement part. If you plan on mounting anything to the top rail, I'd highly recommend it.

Titanium magazine tube: http://shop.carriercomp.com/product.sc?productId=3&categoryId=4 If you're entertaining the idea of mounting anything to the top rail, do yourself a favor and go ahead about buy this rail when you order your mag tube. There is no better mounting surface than this for the M4, period. http://shop.carriercomp.com/product.sc?productId=6&categoryId=5

Great M4 deal: http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25600 Awesome collapsible stock deal: http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24976

One of the guys on here is selling his lightly used M4 for a good deal. 308 is in his user name. I think it was 1350? You can get the collapsible stocks from HK on here for like 265 shipped. The carriercomp titanium magazine tube is better than the factory benelli tube. It's 5.5 ounces lighter. Won't rust. Superior machining. Better finish. Higher quality spring. Complies with 922 parts requirements. It's about 189 if I recall. It comes with a US made follower too, so you're half way towards your 922 compliance goal when using a collapsible stock. M4's ain't cheap.

WTB -- Benelli M4 Top Rail Screw & Washers
StrangerDanger replied to StrangerDanger's topic in Benelli
Kip helped me source the washers. How is a 100 of them for $6.50? A little better than 6 bucks for one from the bastards at Brownells! http://www.mcmaster.com/ Type in this reference number in the search, and it'll take you to the listing. 93501A009 We can't find the damn screws cataloged anywhere though. The cage works well, so long as they don't escape and tell on you. Your pimp hand must be strong. -

Money sent. Anyone else need a set besides Thrombj? I'm still waiting to hear from my source at ar15.com for a set. -
For shell carriers, I've had all the brands. Here is how I would rate them: SideArmor: Best design by far. Will never wear out. Only downside is the weight penalty. The carrier itself is quite heavy. Even my 4 round carrier weighed 4 or 5 ounces. 3GunGear: Super lightweight. Essentially the only thing you're adding is the weight of the shells. Very low profile, folds flush with the receiver when no shells are present. Kind of ugly though and will wear out eventualy. Tacstar: Junk. Good retention, but the mounting system to the M4 is Fail. Mesa Tactical: Not really a fan. The top rail is fail. It's heavy. The shells were a b*tch to get in and out of my unit. I've heard there was a revision since I had mine. The ergonomics of the carrier aren't as well refined as the SideArmor. I'm not comfortable mounting 6+ shells to the top rail holes without a forward support like the SideArmor has on their full rail system.

It's normal. Mine is actually beveled after 13,000 rounds. If you're concerned about cosmetics, get a bottle of alumablack.

WTB -- Benelli M4 Top Rail Screw & Washers

Thom, I have a line on another set. I'll put you in contact with him on Monday. He has to find the parts in storage. Or, if others need these. I'm sure we can find more buyers and sellers. The screws are not carried by mcmaster Carr. They're probably some crap from Italy. -
The only benefit to having a shell carrier is to have the rounds on the weapon fir a quick grab and go situation. Such cases, you don't have several minutes to gear up. You'd be lucky to have shoes honestly. 7 or 8 rounds of 12 gauge should do most jobs though honestly. I do not want the added bulk and weight associated with a weapon mounted carrier. I do not care about the overall weight of the weapon because it is heavy. I care that the weight is slowing my reaction time down, or impeding my ability to shoulder the weapon for long periods of time. I find a weapon light to be mandatory. Target identification and searching areas for trouble helps when you can see. My property is pretty large and remote. The idea that I would call the police and hide in my closet sucking my thumb every time i hear a noise is laughable. Even the responding Officer would tell you to man up if he was honest. You don't run around like a 'tard with the light on the entire time. I usually slip outdoors in the dark and listen. Usually the dog is going apesh*t if it detects something. It'll track right for it. If you do add a light, pick a simple, lightweight, durable and easy to use model. Something like a Surefire Scout. Mounting options are complex. I've been working on mine for 7 years, and haven't gotten it exactly where I want it. You do not need an optic, but they are nice to have. Again, weight and bulk are the enemy. Something like an Aimpoint T1 or the new Trijicon optics are excellent. I run all slugs, so the optic pushes my effective range out to a 100 yards. Someone will cry that I can't shoot a person legally at that distance. They would be correct in most cases. However, I deal with 4 legged threats on my property that are not afforded such liberal protection.
