  1. Allright, I support the the troops but disagree with the gov't position on this war. I already apologized for venting on this thread. This was the wrong day and thread to vent on and it's pretty apparent that I p*ssed quite a few folks off here. Liquor drinking and posting are about as good an idea as liquor and full autos (fun, but it will eventually catch up with ya). You can accept the apology, or not, and it's pretty clear it's a not. Anyhow, I'm done with this thread, so flame away boys.
  2. How much is that membership, I need to take some of those classes myself? I don't have a sling on my M4's yet. I know on my FAL carbines I like a two point sling. I'm still trying to figure out with the collapsible how to mount the sling. There is the slot or the hole, or some are mounting that sling through the pistol grip with the adapter. This is probably the best solution, but it scares me since I had to pay so much for my last collapsible. I'm interested in ideas for my rig. What kind of slugs were most folks using out there? I hear those those Federal TruBall's are pretty revolutionary for the smoothbore slug shooters. What kind of distance were you shooting the slugs and the buckshot at and with what chokes. I'd be interested to hear about this and we can compare notes.
  3. Mercury reducers will help with the recoil, but will unbalance your gun because of all the weight in the buttstock. I guess you could put some lead in the front of your gun like some clay shooters do to get an acceptable balanced swing. My next waterfowl gun is going to be the Extrema II with kick off and a Beretta gel pad that pops on and off. It comes in different thicknesses too for L.O.P.. I use it on my AL391 Urika and have been extremely satisfied with it. It seems much more secure than the Benelli pads. The Benelli pads are the same material as the Kick-eez recoil pads, about the best recoil pad out there, IMO. I just don't know how secure those new Benelli pads are, I've heard that they can pop out and come loose. I don't know if this is true though because I have a 1990's SBE.
  4. Uh... that guy, the one on your left, he don't look nearly as happy in that prone position as you do, lol. I betcha that school ran you some DINERO!
  5. What do you want it for? What type of hunting? If for hunting, all the above choices are good. Maybe you could find a good used gun off this board, or somewhere else and save some of your hard earned dough. A used M1S90 or a Berette AL391 with a synthetic camo stock would be excellent. I don't like the 3.5" magnums myself. I've found out I can kill ducks out to 40-50 yards with 2.75 or 3" mags just fine. And yes a 3.5" mag kicks right about there with an elephant gun. Only with an elephant gun you don't generally shoot a whole box of shells. Plus those 3.5" shells are not what you would call cheap.
  6. It's always been like that. Seems like they would make more money if they dropped the prices, especially for the Nova parts & accessories, since they are an economical type shotgun- that is, untill you try and buy a barrel or parts for one.
  7. I respect our troops enough to speak out against an unjust and wrongheaded war. We'll ultimately see who's right when they are flying the the last helicopter off the embassy roof 69 Beers. I guess you didn't learn the lesson of Veitnam very well, did ya. Hopefully, we won't have to loose 50,000 more kids in this one, like we did in 'Nam. Our country was founded by revolutionary guerrilla fighters. They were excellent defensive fighters. That still stands today, in that we don't do very well when we get ourselves in an offensive type war. History shows that except for Panama, or a Grenada type police action, we get our *sses handed to us unless we are fighting defensively, like in WWII. We NEEDED to go into Afghanistan to DEFEND our country, but not Iraq. Now because we are spread so thin, the friggen Taliban are re-taking ground in Afghanistan while we are trying to prop up our puppet gov't in Iraq (just like we did in Vietnam). The Saddam dictatorship was not exactly a model government by anyones standards, but it was a secular gov't and was run by Sunni's. Saddams Baathists kept the religious fundamentalist ruthlessly in check. America is not going to be able to do this without using secrete police style tactics.Damn, we can't even run an ABU Graib for christsakes! Remember the Baathists Party was modelled to a large degree after the Nazi Party (yeah, you can look it up). America doesn't seem to good with Nazi style occupations and that's why we will probably end up with a Shia' Ayatolla like Muqtada al Sadr running the place when we finally leave. Somebody far worse (for us ) than Saddam. Remember what those guy's were chanting when they hung Saddam? I agree that this thread was the wrong place to vent about the war in retrospect, live and learn, AND FOR THIS I APOLOGIZE. Now can we all get back to talking about weapons again since we are't doing any good banging heads talking about the war.
  8. I find it pleasantly surprising that you can still own a semi auto shotgun over there still. Benelli semi's are the best for reliability and ease of cleaning and are d*mn nice to carry even in regular weights. If you are going to carry you gun way more than you are going to fire it a light weight gun is hard to beat. I like my 20 gauge Montefeltro for chuker & grouse & quail where I might walk for miles and even have to do some climbing in the case of the chukers. Broke a stock chasing those buggers one time. Also, like the 20 for pheasants with magnums, but it does kick. The lighter guns kick harder and some say they don't swing as well although I don't agree with this as a benelli has a wonderful balance for an autoloader. If your going to shoot a lot of clays you might want to go with a regular weight gun however- something to think about. Just curious, is that two shots in the magazine and one in the chamber, or two shots total in the gun? If the latter is corect an over/under with two selectable chokes is awful hard to beat. Plenty of competition shooters with autos though.
  9. Ok, fair enough guys. I too think our troops deserve the ultimate respect and the best equipment that is available. However, I will not sit back and say nothing about our current state of affairs while our finest are giving the the ultimate sacrifice. It our duty to speak out as a citizen of this great nation when you believe things are not right. This is what all the sacrifice heretofore has been about IMHO. I thank every service person for their service on this Memorial Day.
  10. Respectfully, where we need to "take the fight" is right on our own border! We're being invaded and our military needs to defend our own country- not "nation build" over in friggen Iraq. I support the troops enough to not want another kid to have to die over there so King George can have his little oil war and Exxon can make 32 billion dollars this year. WMD's my *ss. Oh, and don't even get me started on Hillary or Barak HUSSEIN Obama. Where the H*ll is our country going: oh, wait- I hear a flushing sound. Somehow, I get the feeling that our Founding Fathers and all the men who have given their lives and blood for this great country would't be to thrilled to see the the direction our nation has taken as of late.
  11. There is a product called Dura Coat that by all accounts works very well. You can do solid or camo schemes. You can check it out on the DS Arms website, they put it on their FAL"s and AR's. Liberty, why don't you like the Extrema? Ihave heard the new SBE's have had trouble with the recoil pads and that the little rubber chevrons in the stock get hard over time (like any recoil pad does) and have to be replaced. I have an older SBE Camo from '97 with a kick ezz pad. No trouble from this old gal; however I like my Beretta AL391 Camo for hunting better because it kicks less and I no longer feel the need to fire 3.5" shells. I've found I kill ducks out to 40-50 yards better actually with 2.75" mags. I don't know why, but I do.
  12. TW-25 worky real good on semi and full autos too. I didn't think to try it on my recoil tube.
  13. Trijicon Reflex. No batteries, big bright 14 MOA quick aquisition chevron which can be used for a very quik snapshot or by using the tip or point can be used for accurate aimed fire out to about 300-400 meters. Tough as nails and super lightweight. If it gets dirty dunk it in the nearest water. Yeah EO-Tech's are good though but heavier, have batteries, and are arguably not as tough as a Trijicon Reflex. Hard decision. Personal preference.
  14. I wonder what genius thought to name the M4 shotgun after the carbine. They could have named it anything else. Yeah I know that 4 follows 3, but it is confusing. They could have called it "the joint service combat shotgun" or anything but an M4. Oh well, at least we have a good shotgun, as opposed to the carbine which is a mediocre weapon at best. Go ahead and flame away, its the truth.
  15. f you get the Doctor, get the 7 MOA dot. Not the 3 MOA dot. This has ben learned by the subgun crowd for quick aquisition and good practical accuracy out to 100 yards, give or take.
  16. Most things can be done great with a skeet or improved cylinder. Maybe a light modified choke for your farther shots. With newer shells the wad design acts as a choke in and of itself. Back in paper shell days with cardboard wads, guns needed tight forcing cones and chokes to get the same pattern you get today with a more open chokes and fc's. In addition, you don't have the shot scrubbing that cuases fliers in your pattern with modern wads. Try telling a real oldtimer WW2 guy this though. My grandads, god rest 'um, would not dream of shooting anything but a mod. or full.
  17. Just trying to keep a welcoming attitude, unlike other boards I sometimes frequent, where new guys get hammered for asking questions that are obvious to an experienced guy like yourself. And I don't know if your a skier, but monoskiing is tough to master, epecially on the really steep*ss stuff- 50 degrees plus. And even if you were say, a gay f*cker, you wuold still have some pretty big cajones to be a monoskier.
  18. Foregive my ignorance, but what the h*ll is an M80 forend?
  19. When you clean your shotgun- I'm assuming you have cleaned it, right? Because the factory gunk will definitely cause issues. Clean out the mag tube with a 12 ga or 10 ga brush with a patch soaked with CLP then run another patch dry through it. If this doesn't work clean the recoil tube. Spray it out with gun scrubber or carb cleaner and the hit it pretty good with clp or rem oil and then work the action aggressively. I betcha that will do the trick for ya, in addition to the regular cleaning. Your gun should shoot the 3 1/4 dram or dr shells ( thats max dr) with a 1 1/8 oz payload- shot size has no effect, only powder and payload weight. Many guns after being broken in will function with even lighter loads. I have one that will shoot Walmart Superspeed loads which are 7/8 oz ( standard 20 ga payload). My other M4 will only cycle the 1 1/8 loads, which is fine because that's the minimum that it is meant to function with. The other gun might just be a fluke and it will only function with these super light loads when clean for about 4 boxes then it will FTF.
  20. Any Benelli or Beretta that has been produced within the last 13 yrs. or so would be kick-arse. Plenty of good buys out there. Oftentimes you can find Benellis with a dirty recoil tube that are jamming for a good price used.
  21. Does anyone have any updated info on how the M4 is doing in the sandbox? Is it highly regarded and desired for CQB? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
