  1. The 2-3/4" specification is the maximum length allowed for the fired cartridge, i.e. with the crimped petals opened up. That specification keeps the opened cartridge contained within the limits of a 2-3/4" chambered barrel and the ejection port dimension is similarly designed to eject the opened up 2-3/4" cartridge. So the length of the unfired cartridge is otherwise irrelevant. If you want to increase capacity, use the shortest shells!
  2. A small difference in cartridge length x 4-5 shells ,or more, is usually the source for mismatch of mfg. stated magazine capacity and being short changed one cartridge capacity.

  5. Well done.

  7. Have at it. Although they are not a legitimate state (instead derogatorily reference them as DAESH), I wish I, you, or someone had a real ISIS / ISIL deterrent to post and go viral, instead of a simple graphic. If the rifle depicted below was a Benelli, it would be a perfect fit......the sentiment couldn't be more truthful.
  8. Fox News is now reporting this specialty ammunition has been successfully tested in M4's and is being expedited to the front line forces in France.
  9. Tragically, the unarmed Police Nationale responded to the reported shooting on bicycles to be met by disciplined terrorists determined to complete their mission. ....they did not fair any better than the innocent employees at the publishing house. Those Legendre Armes depicted above arrived hours later while the brothers-of-Allah in their getaway car were long gone heading for the border in their hybrid compact. Their M4's were silence.

  11. Here's what can happen when you use a dedicated magazine retainer removal tool....again, too tight and stiff and the metal part distorts or gives way before you know it.
  12. Some shotgun magazine retainers do not have much material around the holes, so when you attempt to compress the rigid spring with ring pliers you can distort or break the metal about the ring. To insert such retainers, you can use a hose clamp to gently compress the retainer to just less than the tube size, insert the retainer, release the clamp and gently tap the retainer to desired seating level Here an example of ring pliers failing to work on a very stiff magazine retainer; see where the aperture has been torn open due to very little material around the hole.
  13. Wiha makes some nice ones I use, in curved and straight needle nose shapes with dedicated tip sizes. But for the magazine retainers I like have the kind that allows different tips secured with a set screw; in particular you can easily fabricate specialty tips from drill rod stock or small allen wrenches as they are strong enough for the task. Below are some examples. Specifically for the Benelli, I use a diameter just less than the hole in the retainer and importantly, I cut a detent in the tips for the thickness of the retainer so when you apply compression the tips don't slip from the retainer as they tend to do otherwise.

  15. .............
  16. If you find one they can be identified by the Spanish / French Proof House Markings on the barrel (some examples shown below), just like the Benelli Italian made barrels have Italian Proof House markings.
  17. the logic is the magazine tube resides directly under the barrel and that requires the pistons to be offset from the centerline of the barrel ...how would you design the ports for a two piston recoil mechanism ?
  18. General knowledge information: Pelican Products Inc, bases in Torrance California, acquired Storm-Hardigg early 2010. Pelican cases are regarded as top-of-the-line cases commercially utilized for shipping/transporting sensitive equipment. Pelican-Storm cases are more of a consumer case but still offers excellent protection for electronics and other sensitive equipment. im3200 is a Pelican Storm case 1720 is a Pelican case. That is why you will notice a $$ difference between two seemingly similar sized Pelican / Storm cases.

  20. Why would there be any significant pressure on the pins at all ? The firing pin transits thru the cam pin in both 5.56 / M4 to keep it longitudinally oriented, their respective bolts are locked up with the barrel at the time of ignition....after ignition, they only serve to be a fixed point to rotate the bolt for extraction and feeding the next cartridge. If there was a any tension or pressure of significance, you would think it would manifest as a fractured firing pin as it is much smaller in diameter than the cam pin, that is being held in a right angle to the firing pin orientation, for the to-and-fro bolt to dance about. It would seem to be analogous to the firing pin retaining pin in both platforms, serving only to keep the firing pin within a certain limit of longitudinal travel.
  21. The Benelli inertia driven bolt gun cycling reliability is generally not impaired until the weight of the accessories on the gun equal or exceed the bolt weight......regardless of their location. The 20 gauge M1-M2 bolts weigh about 385 grams; the 12 gauge bolts 500 grams. The 20 gauge with a 2-shot extension plus 2 cartridges weighs ~ 365 grams; In 12 gauge, a 2 shot extension PLUS two 3" cartridges total just about 500 grams. The available aftermarket charging handles weigh 10-20 grams !

  24. Wasn't sure to post the response here or on the other related thread. It's the 2 piece Mesa tactical screw from a year or so ago, before they had a specific M4 product....I have not used their current product. Photos by Permission: Benelli Super 90 M4 Anatomy Series Firearm Manual
