  1. This work on the M4? Can't say. Haven't tried. There's an ever-so-slight difference between the M2 and M4 carriers. Just looking at it I wouldn't think there would be a function issue but I'd check with TTI before I did it. M4 OEM on the bottom. The difference is probably just for added strength per mil requirements. Do you have their spring kit for reduced recoil and faster follow up shots for your benelli? if so how do you like it Nope. I've been running SureCycle recoil tube/spring sets on a few of my guns for years with no issues. Don't see a need to change.
  2. (I AM NOT ASSOCIATED IN ANY WAY WITH TARAN TACTICAL. WELL, EXCEPT FOR THE PILE OF MY MONEY THEY HAVE) Most everybody who has a Benelli, including me, is familiar with the "Benelli Thumb" experience. The shape of the current carrier is such that, when loading shells into the magazine, the thumb is easily captured by the carrier "nose" which can result in pain, blood, cursing, tossing the shotgun into the weeds, and other such negative wave activities. This is especially true when trying to perform reloads under the stress of a high-speed shooting match like 3-gun, but is not uncommon even during staid events such as a leisurely skeet or trap outing. With the increased popularity of 3-gun, it was such a common occurrence that individuals started modifying the OEM carrier to fill in the U-shaped nose to alleviate the problem. These mods met with varying degrees of success. This lead to other folks who were more mechanically inclined to perform these mods for others. And now the final progression of this is the purpose-made replacement part. While this is the first one I'm aware of, I imagine others may follow. Anyway, Taran Tactical Innovations has what they call the AccuGuide Extended Carrier. You can go to their website for further information. While it is a bit spendy at eighty bucks a pop, that's not really out of line if you consider the alternatives of sending your OEM part off for modification, come back and may or may not work correctly. I can tell you that this thing works. So far I've installed 4 in my M1/M2's. My M1 clays gun has been through a number of sporting clays/skeet/trap sessions without a single hiccup. I've done one 3-gun and one practical shotgun match with my current M1 3-gun shooter with the same results. And no pain, blood, cursing, etc. I'm a satisfied customer. I'm not sure why Benelli doesn't do this themselves on OEM builds. On the right is an older M1. The carrier shape is such that I have never experienced the Benelli Thumb so I didn't feel the need to replace it. Center is the current thumb catcher shape. On the left is the TTI replacement carrier.
  3. 5 to 10 yards is way too close. Back up to at least 20 yards, then check POA/POI for the pattern. You don't shoot birds/whatever from 5 to 10 yards. Unless you're walking out in the back yard and shooting them in a pen.
  4. No, M2 stocks will not fit. The interface between the trigger housing and the stock are different Additionally, the M2 receiver tapers inward at the rear and above the trigger whereas the M1 receiver is flat.
  5. But, but, but, but, it's KAC! Oh yeah, I forgot. I have them on most of my t1's. Funny thing. I've yet to replace a battery on any of them. After several years for some of them. I'm not one to change them all out on Jan 1, my birthday, or whatever, so it is nice to have a replacement at hand when one does go down. As long as the replacement is still good after those years of just sitting in there.
  6. You may be able to find the specific individual shim that got damaged at Numrich or Brownells. I believe the shims are the same as the SBEII/M2.
  7. M1 stocks fit SBE1. There's usually a handful on gunbroker or ebay.
  8. The magazine tube on earlier M1's are configured slightly different from later ones. That's why. You'll have to find an older Surefire forend to get the proper fit on the older gun. They show up on gunbroker every now and then. http://forums.benelliusa.com/showthread.php/29184-Difference-between-early-and-later-m1-forends-Will-later-models-fir-HK-m1S90
  9. Start by downloading the manual to become familiar with it: http://www.benelliusa.com/sites/default/files/originals/product-manuals/montefeltro.pdf It's primarily a field gun. It will be a great hunter. Any 12 gauge choke tool can remove the chokes and yes, they will be marked. I don't know if the 4 notches you mention are the choke tool notches or the choke ID notches. The takedown notches are larger and are at 12-3-6-9 on the clock. The ID notches will be tiny notches right next to one another. Four of those indicate Improved Cylinder chokes. It's an older import as noted by the HK markings. Current versions have the option of polymer stocks but why bother? It'll be expensive to replace and it's a good looking gun just like it sits.
  10. One more M2 vote. For reasons noted above with weight being my first consideration, versatility next.

Simple fix. You need the proper sized punch to remove the retaining pin and re-inserting the pin so as not to damage the detent spring can be tricky but it's easily done if you have even minimal mechanical skills.
  12. Assuming it's a new gun, run a couple hundred more full power loads through it. No matter what the advertisements on gas operated guns of any pedigree say, crap ammo gives you crap results. Yes it's possible for a light load shell to eject but not send the bolt back far enough to trip the carrier mechanism to feed the next round even though it has been released from the magazine. It's comparable to short-stroking a pump. Not that I've ever done that sort of thing.
  13. "Jamming" is too non-specific and covers a multitude of sins. All types of loads? Light only? Not feeding? Not ejecting? What is it doing, exactly?
  14. OK, moving on. Brownells. Replacement recoil and inertia springs. Less than 20 bucks with shipping. See what happens then.
  15. If it's a Shaw barrel it will be marked as such.
  16. No utility in 3-gun either. There's never a time that you're firing on one target enough to empty the gun. Unless, of course, you're missing the target every time. Mostly, it's just a stunt for posting on the interweb.
  17. This was making the rounds on a couple of other forums a couple of weeks ago. Idiot. (the shooter, not you Dan:D)
  18. The inertia system is what cycles the action but I don't see it having much effect on the complete release of the round from the magazine onto the carrier. Anything's possible I guess. Put two rounds in the magazine, hold the gun level and hit the cartridge drop lever. Look to see where the first shell ends up on the carrier. Cycle that one out then do the same for the last one in the magazine. The magazine spring should push the shell all the way back onto the carrier as far as it did for the first one. I've seen guns with weak magazine springs push the shell all the way out of the magazine but not completely back on the carrier as far as it will go. Your gun may or may not cycle completely if fired from the hip. I've fired all my M1's one handed without having it shouldered during demos. The only time I've had any problems with cycling is when using ultra-lite target loads such as low recoil/low noise AA's. Then again, they don't cycle those reliably even if I have it shouldered properly. Usually the problem is not ejecting fully rather than not feeding. Tom Knapp (RIP) and Tim Bradley routinely fire their guns from awkward positions, unsupported on the shoulder and I never saw either one's guns malfunction during any part of their shows. They always claim their guns are stock but who really knows?
  19. Since it's usually the last round in the magazine, assuming you're only loading two for skeet, that may indicate a need for a new mag spring. You could also make sure there's no burr or other similar obstruction on the carrier by giving it a good polishing in the area that the rim of the shell rides along as it's coming back. At the same time, give the mag tube/spring/follower a good cleaning as well.
  20. See the chart in post #6 http://forums.benelliusa.com/showthread.php/32376-Benelli-121M1
  21. Yep, it was lots of fun, as usual. My 11th year going up there. Abbey belongs to one of the other guys in the group. She's a sweetheart and loves to hunt. This year I took a M2, compact model, 20 gauge.
  22. Me and Abbey with the group's tally on the last day:
  23. From opening weekend: A couple of birds commit suicide
  24. Here's the five cent version: http://www.parmarng.org/freeidaho/AlSkDjFhG/BenelliThumbSaver/BenelliThumbSaver.html Lots of other interweb info but this gives you a "thumbnail" sketch:D.
  25. Many competitors have modified the loading port area by relieving and beveling the receiver in a way that allows more thumb on the back of the shells as they're pushed in. The gun in the video has been so modified. Just grab your hacksaw and grinder and have at it. I'm sure there's a YouTube video out there that'll show you just how to do it. Or not. As already mentioned, try another spring from Wolff, Nordic Comp, etc.
