Nice turkeys, Mudhen. that first one you posted was a real hoss. Good luck to you on your upcoming hunts. I start on Wed. In Wi. and the on to Mi. on the following Mon. Well done, and thanks for all the info that you shared with me over the past year.Mike

You should have no problem shooting the 1 oz. loads. I would shoot a couple of boxes of heavier loads first, just to loosen her up a bit. Make sure you keep the bolt and rails lubed. Good luck with the new gun..Mike

You can dry fire them. Some may argue this, but it won't hurt anything. Mike

Put the thickest shim in. It will lower the comb the most. I think it is a ''D'', but not sure..Mike

Congrats, Mudhen. Would you look at the hooks on that hoss. Nice bird....Mike

I shot my SBE l today with the .660 I.C. choke. H-13 in #6's x 3.5'' at 40 yards. I had 165, and with the #7's, I had 277. I expected better. They both shot lower than Win. Hi-Velocity. Mike

Congrats, HH on a fine bird. Looks like a dandy..Mike

That was shortly after Al Gore invented it...Mike

They are a reputable choke. They are in the same league as Indian Creek and Rhino. There is a lot of info about them at the Old Gobbler forum. Check them out..Mike http://oldgobbler.com/TheForum/index.php

I live right on 164!!!

I have an Aimpoint on mine. It works great, and the batteries last for years, not days. A lot of the guys are using the Burris set-ups. They are Speed Beads and Fast Fire's, I think. I see a fair amount of Bushnell's and Tru Glo's also.I don't know the particulars of any of these except the Aimpoint. Do your homework, and good luck with your decision..Mike

I'm in Big Bend. Looks like we are pretty close. Mike

Yes. More than one would think. It can vary from shell to shell, and choke to choke.

Well said..

It is not unusual for two different shells to shoot to a different POI. That is why it is so important to pattern the shell that you intend to hunt with. It may very well mean that the sights will have to be adjusted...Mike

I like the 3.5's also. My main reason is the added pellets that you get with them. If you are shooting Hevi-13, do not worry about how fast they travel, because when they get there, they will kick butt, period. Good luck with your choice...Mike

turkey season around the corner y'all ready?

That's a great starter kit. -
I never saw an green original sight. As far as I know, they were all red. Not positive, but pretty sure...Mike

Thanks, Tim. I actually shoot several ported chokes. I did my homework and tested shells and chokes and those were the ones that ended up being the tightest. I gladly admit being helped along the way, by a bunch of guys that know more about this stuff than I.
-
Tim, Does this then mean that if you shoot the same buffered hard shot shells through a variety of chokes that have the same restriction i.e .665, whether they be ported, non ported, extended or flush, the results would be the same? I respectfully value your opinion on this forum, but for some reason I just can't get this through my head. Mike

Well said, Mudhen..

I had a Gander Mountain gunsmith work on the trigger of a Nova. It was at 14#. He got it down to about 8# and would not go any further. If you put a trigger gauge on you favorite shotgun, you might be suprised at what it is at. For turkey hunting, it is shot more like a rifle. For regular shooting, a heavy trigger is easy to deal with. For me anyways..

How about a SBE ll? Great gun. 3.5" capabilities. Smooth shooting and reliable. Having already shot one is a plus also. I own a SBE ll and a Vinci. If I had to pick one for all around shooting, it would be the SBE ll. They are both great guns, just my opinion. Good luck with your decision...Mike

You will never get into M1014's head, ever...
